I just got this beast a few weeks ago, and my first drive in it was a 3 hour trip up to my college. Ran like a charm. It has a new engine and even that has over 150k miles on it, but still runs like a charm.

My question is what are the easy steps I can take to ensure a longer life and a smoother ride? I have heard many times that the single most important factor is the oil filter.
How can I check when the oil filter/ air fillter / other filters need to be changed? Or should I just go on a mile ruberic. I do not know much about cars, but I dont have a problem opening the hood to check a few things once in a while. Are there any parts that I should clean every once in a while? Any caps or bolts to check to make sure are tight?

Again, I dont really know where things are in a car except for the major parts, but I am quick to learn. Just want to hear from any other 350sdl owners and their experiences with the car, or anyone else who knows a lot about it and its maintenance. -thanks

My aunt has one, and I drove it once or twice. It's a nice riding car. It has easy-to-access controls, a big-time-luxury feel to it, and an overall good ride. So, why is Daimler-Chrysler canning it?

Ok, so I have a 1970 automatic 240D which has been converted to run on vegetable oil. Since we've converted it, my family has run this sucker off of straight waste oil. It's been about 8 months and there hasnt been any problems yet. However I recently read an article which said something about the longevity of this conversion. Anyone know anything about this?

inside is a port with a wire mesh screen in the bottom, iv'e been told this port is for 30w motor oil, do i have correct information, and if so how much oil, another person told me if i put oil in the hole the pump would stop working, my thoughts are that mercedes could have built the pump to use the engine oil inside the block for lubrication to the injector pump but then again i'm asking because i don't really know, can anyone tell me about this?

keep a extra used one, in a clean bag in the trunk just in case, out on a long trip i'm sure it would not be easy to find a used pump, so if i need to replace it will i be in for problems other than just bleeding the injectors?
