Low quality and over priced new, might be a good value used if its one that hasn't required a bunch of repairs. Once the warranty is gone, those Benz's really start draining your pocket.

ML's have a poor reputation for reliability but some of the early suspension problems from 1998 -1999 were fixed in later models. Remaining problems with fuel pumps, engine breakdowns, heavy oil use is a sign of needing engine overhaul, oil leaks in engine, catalytic converters give problems leading to loss of power and check engine light coming on. Brake linings wear out quickly, the warning light may not work leading to brake disc damage. paint could be better, cracks in windscreen frame. Lots of electrical problems, headlamps burn out quickly, electric windows sometimes jam open, sunroof jams and is expensive to fix, the central console goes wierd and is expensive to fix. The central locking can freeze up and leave you outside. There are more common problems but I've probably put you off by now. Generally regarded as one of the worst vehicles to wear the three point star.

Sorry but Lemons. Since Mercedes went with Chrysler, all kinds of electrical problems. There is a website for Mercedes complaints.

I'm a girl, I don't know much about the engine and reliability. However, for me a big part would be the looks. Make sure you are comfortable driving the older model, since the newer ones are a lot different. That's what I consider when buying a new car. Hope it works out!!!!
