inside is a port with a wire mesh screen in the bottom, iv'e been told this port is for 30w motor oil, do i have correct information, and if so how much oil, another person told me if i put oil in the hole the pump would stop working, my thoughts are that mercedes could have built the pump to use the engine oil inside the block for lubrication to the injector pump but then again i'm asking because i don't really know, can anyone tell me about this?

Doc is right. I had a 240D years ago. I would take off the cap and pour oil in and if I remember correctly I would let it overflow so as to push out any fuel that was in there. That particular injection pump is not lubricated by the Diesel fuel as in the later model Diesels.
Darn nice car tho'. Simple, easy to work on. About the ONLY drawback was it is so slow you get bug strikes on the BACK window :-)
