I want to buy a new car and do the trade-in at the same dealership.

I don't owe any money on the Matrix, it has 100K mi. on it, and could use new brakes/tires. Replacing the engine will run me $3000. The KBB trade-in value in fair condition(which doesn't quite acknowledge the engine condition) is about $7000.

I figure the dealership can get the replacement engine and do the labor much cheaper, so I shouldn't necessarily see $3000 worth of trade-in value reduction.

What does the DMV require me to do in order to register/put the car under my name from the private party i am buying from? and how long would the whole process take? from the time i inspect and test drive the car, do i have to make a contract or something just in case something is wrong with the car that wasnt stated? I have the cash to pay, so there will be no need for loans or anything, thanks in advance

I live in NY state. I bought a 1993 Chrysler Lebaron for my daughter with 134,000 miles from a dealer. The transmition is already going after 1 week! I understand there is no formal lemon law after 100,000 miles.

I've narrowed it down to a 2000 Rodeo with 90,000 miles, 1998 Honda Passport with 138,000, or a 1998 Jeep with 125,000, anybody have any advice which will be the best deal for the money they are all in the $5,000 range. That's what I can afford.

I am saving up a large down payment on a pre-owned vehicle. Is there a minimum amount that you typically have to finance a car for in order to finance over certain lengths? For example, if I want to finance a car for 60 months, is there usually a minimum amount I have to finance for in order to get that finance length?
