This could range from all sides due to what one likes, what one desires, what one needs, etc.
But in all my years, the best kept secret to save thousands on a basic 4 door economy sedan.....the Chevy Prizm. Why? Cause its not really a Chevy....but a Toyota Corolla re-badged as a Chevy. Since its badged this way, it no longer has the "class" of a Toyota so it no longer holds the higher resale value, even though its exactly the same car besides a few bucks in plastic emblems. I have seen the Prizm go for up to $3000 less than the exact same year and mileage Corolla right next to it. And even had people say....that Chevy is ugly yet drive the Corolla never realizing its the same car as they can't see past the emblem itself and the brainwashing that comes with it.
If you sniff around the Prizm, its written TOYOTA all over it, easiest place is to look where the back license plate goes, can't miss that one.

Buying a car 2 model years old will contribute to healthy financing on your part. You'll get a car with approx 25000 miles and all the residual depreciation has already transpired.
Results: You'll probably have a very good car-payment and equity at the point of re-sale

Get a old Buick with a 3800 engine. they are good for 200,000 miles. for $2500 you get a 95 park ave or lesabre with about 120,000. That is plenty of car left and they are dependable. The 3800 engine gets 29gpm highway and 18 city. The ride is smooth almost like a Cadillac.
