we want to buy a honda, its made in japan. we also want to finance but i dont think i can do that buying it from the manufactures. i called some dealers and they are asking a lot more than the price on the car on the website. what to do....?

Not a chance. The manufacturers set up this system of dealers and the compensation structure of selling the vehicles. They would catch holy terror from the dealers if they decided to sell directly a la Dell.

That's why you go through the trouble of doing your research finding the dealer invoice and what additional margins exist that you can exploit to get the best deal (I didn't say lowest price: the dealership and the reps need to make money, too) on a new vehicle.

No, you cannot buy directly from the manufacturer. There are some franchise laws about that. Even big fleets like the NYC taxi cabs buy their Crown Victorias from a Ford dealer not Ford directly.

Only franchised dealers, who pay a franchise fee to the factory, can order and purchase directly from the factory.

Everyone else must go through the dealers.

why dont you find a number and call them directly...YOu never know...life can be changing..=) and you might get a great deal.
