My husband and I are seperated. We still filed married filing jointly. The tax refund was supposed to be sent to our home address but I found out he told the guy who prepared the taxes to have it directly deposited into his personal bank acct. Can he do this?

I received a check from H&R Block for a class action settlement.
My question is that the check does not look like a check, is more like a post card and what is supposed to be the check does not have a place where to sing it on the back. I just wonder if is safe to deposit it in my account since i've never seen a check like this.

I was wondering if you can deduct amounts paid to a daycare from your gross income when doing your federal income taxes. Also, if yes, do you have to itemize in order to claim that deduction or can you use the standard deduction and then use that expense on top of that?

I need to know if this job would be worth taking. The job is an hour away. I figured in all bills, groceries, estimate on gas money, and cigarettes to be $1,817/month not counting ANY spending money. Job pays $12/hour plus $85/week child support coming in. I don't know what taxes would be like on this pay as a single mom with two kids. Would this be worth the one hour drive to work and one hour drive back every day?

I claimed my Brother-in-Law who is 25 yearsold when I did my taxes. I ended up getting audited and realized that I didn't put him as a brother-in-law, but rather a "other" for the dependency. What should I do now?

My roomate works at a place where she is a caretaker of people with physical/mental disabilities. Alot of these residents do not have families who visits them. Anyways, her work started a birthday club for the residents to get little gifts or presents when their birthday comes. My roomate is the only 1 who buys presents for the 7 residents with her own money. Can that be a tax write off?

Hey everyone!

I am currently employed as a professional model and per my contract, I am required to keep my body in shape and maintain my appearance as I was hired. They do not take taxes out and I wanted to know if I could write off things such as my gym membership, make up, and hair expenses?

Thanks in advance and all information and advice is appreciated :)

I don't get it. Why do we have to pay taxes? Its not fair. I learned today that we had to pay over 50% of our income this year in taxes. That sucks. Why?????

My husband's mother sold her home in Honduras and gave my husband $100,000 towards the purchase of a home for us
(which she will be living with us). She gave us the $ in the form of two certified checks made out to my husband. He deposited it into his account to use for a down payment. We are looking for home and plan on settlement in June. Will we have to claim this as income even if we put in a home? Since the money came from a foreign capital gain is the $ taxable from the US? It is a gift from a foreign bank, does this count as taxable? I dont want to use all the $ for the house and then have to pay back taxes on it. We also live in Pa. Can any one help?

I am in the process of closing on a home. I was lucky enough to buy it for 20,000 dollars less than its appraised value. My problem is that I am being told that I have to pay the taxes based on the appraised value (rather than the amount I actually paid for it) for the remainder of this year (2007), and that I am not able to refute them to have them lowered, till next year. Is this correct? Another source also told me that I have to file the paperwork to refute the taxes by May 30th of this year or I will be unable to have them lowered at all next year, (2008). Can anyone give some clarification on this process?
Thanks ahead of time

My husbands grandmother recently passed, because his mother receives SSI, she split her portion of the estate (a house) into thirds for her three children.
She expects us to give her the money we will receive when the home is sold. I insist on taking out the amount that will be due for taxes.
How much will we be levied for inheritance taxes and we will be expected to count this $ as income as well?
