It would mostly hit the poor who do not own property. The impact on middle class property owners would be a wash.

Sales taxes are the most detestible of all taxes as they do not take into account the ability of the taxpayer to pay the tax, disproportionally hurting the poor.

The opposite is closer to the truth. The rich hold much of their assets in property that is not subject to either income tax or property tax. Their spending, on the other hand is more than the total income of the poor.

Someone said it would hurt the poor that don't own property. Renters DO pay property tax on the homes they rent. Just because they don't write the check, doesn't avoid the fact it IS included in their rent. Before someone says landlords won't reduce rent by the tax amount miss one fact. The first vacancy that someone lowers rent to fill fill FORCE the competition to follow suit.

yes because the sales tax everyone pays and the ones that cannot afford it are the lower income people. lowering propwerty taxes with this logic is a govertment scam I have seen it in several area done that way and the property tax NEVER lowered. Vote no and tell those bastards to control spending instead.

The rich are rich because they are smarter than the poor. Regardless of what the tax rate the rich will find a way out.
