My husband works as a contractor and therefore last year when we figured our taxes jointly we owed quite a bit of money. Since we have filed jointly in the past but I chose to file separately for last year and this year, would I be allowed to do so? I'm trying to remedy last year's problem with me not filing but also trying to work on getting a refund if possible and with him working as a contractor that doesn't normally happen if we file jointly, we end up oweing money.

I was supposed to have my federal refund direct deposited today. Feb 9th. However when I woke up this morning my bank does not show record of this. The irs site still shows it as supped to be deposited today. And theHSBC Bank HR block uses to send the money to my account shows my status as" Pending The bank has not received the Federal Refund from the IRS yet. If more than 14 days have passed since you filed your tax return, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to inquire on the status of your refund. " Why would the irs say they were gona deposit it today and then not do it?The only thing I can think is that I didnt send a form 8453 last year even though I was supposed to. Would that delay this years refund?Any help s greatly appreciated.

...to my 2007 taxes. I was not sure what to put so I put no and I have a refund. When I put yes, I will not get a refund. What gives? Are you supposed to apply an overpayment to the next year's tax return? This is for the state, not the IRS.

We married in december 2005 but didn't get our marriage license. We didn't file income tax jointly and we put single on our w-4s. Were we able to do that? Do we have to put married on our w-4s and file income tax jointly? We don't still have our marriage license but plan on getting it.

Essentially I did a little computer repiar work for a small company and they paid me 650 that year it was non-employee compensation (box 7). I put it in turbotax and it states the IRS will take this as self employment. In that case I put in the SF of my home office and my mortgage expenses as well as my utility bills. I didn't go crazy with it but it seems a little weird to lose -2,300 over 650. I have recipts and proof to back it. It lowered my Adusted gross income by -2300. Will this raise any problems?

Last December I received a letter from the IRS saying that we claimed my husbands children and so did the mother on the 2005 taxes. (We thought we had an agreement that we would file the children this year and she lied and we don't want to argue with her). I filled out the 1040X form and found out that we owe $2,000.00. We cannot pay it in full right now. What can I do? Do I still mail in the 1040X with no payment? Can I wait till I file 2006 taxes and have them take it out of my return? I heard that you can make payments...but how high is the interest?? How long do I have till I have to pay?

I recently went to H&R block to file my taxes without my husband present. They had everything all done and ready to file but needed to wait till my husband signed papers after he got off work. To make a long story short, my husband did not want to file with them because of how much they were going to charge us. I charged the fee to my credit card hoping to get a refund after declining the process. After many attempts to reach them and avoidances on their part, they humbly said that the preparer already filed the taxes without my husband's signature and that the IRS already accepted it. MY HUSBAND DIDN'T EVEN SIGN THEM! The preparer messed up! What actions can we take?

I am a PA. tax payer. I received a 1099-R from Ohio for an IRA that I cashed after my father passed away. Does this have to be reported to my PA. tax return and do I also have to pay estimated tax payments to Ohio for 2007? I use Turbotax. It changed my return from a $1500.00 refund for Pa to a $1100.00 payout. It also printed out 4 vouchers for tax payments to Ohio. Should I be paying taxes to both states?

I did my taxes on one of those free sites and just copied over the info from last year I was so excited to get it done early that I did not pay attention as I should have I finished and sent it through I have already received my money. I was looking over the refund and noticed I did not enter in my other daughter ( I know Stupid, I've been stressed) anyway when I went back on the site it's like a 2 thousand dollar difference for federal and a 100 dollar difference for state in my favor. Can you use a 1040x to resend the taxes through so that I can receive this money? I'm so upset please help!
