Because Congress decided to reinstate some deductions that expired on 01/01/2006 at the last minute. So the IRS had to up date the computer system at the last minute. Blame Congress for the delay, not the IRS.

Not possible to respond intelligently to a generalized comment such as yours. If you had provided some detail, maybe it would have been possible.

As a very general response, Congress made some late changes to the tax laws after the IRS had finalized procedures for tax year 2006. This requires major work on their part for some of these changes in order to provide proper support for taxpayers.

Don't blame the IRS for this, thank your representatives in Congress for the SNAFU.

The IRS are Idiots , so what if someones mom works for them, the truth is the truth, so what if things changed at the last minute, that does not mean make the low income families suffer, because in reality we( low income families) do when it is time for a refund not the wealthy or rich

It isn't the IRS silly, It is due to tax changes by the Senate during a republican controlled period. They have been trying to destroy the middle class for the past couple of years. They nearly did away with Mortgage Int. deduction, Tuition, and a couple of other goodies that are vital to the Middle class. You are having to write that in on your 1040 now, because they were trying to phase that out and there may still be a plan in place for that.
Many taxpayers don't realize that Tax Laws and Changes are still taking place until Congress adjourns for Spring Break.

good luck & blessing

i know your question is rhetorical but i've heard over 72,000 people had refund processing delays. have been told so many stories by irs don't know what to believe. lowest earners, those who can claim eic, seem to be picked on this year. after years of not collecting proper amount of taxes, they are looking to make it up with us i guess. good luck, i know it's hard to wait....... my refund this year is substantial, and i need it desperately.
