I did work I just got paid under the table. I paid my own bills and have reciepts from paying my own rent out of my own checking account and also my Lease from my apartment. Will getting paid under the table open up a can of worms?

Also I was not in school at all. In June 2006 I got a new job working full time which is why I filed taxes this year. I made over $10,000. My father nor my mom in no way supports me and I have not lived with my mom or my dad in the past 4 years. I have been living with my fiance for the past 3 1/2 years. Maybe I worded some things wrong. Anyway Thanx for all the advice and any more advice that you can offer.

A friend already submitted her taxes (TurboTax) and now received notice of a $300.00 penatly for withdrawing money from her 401K sometime during 2006. She attempted to amend her taxes but when she put in the penatly... her tax refund did not go down by the expected $300.00, instead it decreased about $150.00. Any particular reason for this... what is she doing wrong in ammending her tax return?

I am still legally married, but I have no idea where my husband is. He was deported nearly 4 years ago, and we have no contact. So my question is, how do I file my US income tax return? Should I file as single? I can't really file as married, since both people need to sign the return. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a college student with w-2s from different states and Jackson Hewitt said it would be about $150 to file. Should I do it myself, I mean what more could they do for me? Also, what form would I use for a college student paying plenty for tuition and everything else? Thank you for the help.

I'm divorced and "X" and I agreed to alternate each year with the child tax credit. What is the IRS form that needs to be filled out, and where can I get more info to ensure I do it right? I assume my "X" needs to sign a document that states I get the credit this year right? and I send that in to the IRS this year. THanks for your help.

When I donated the clothing at the salvation army I got a reciept indicating the date and my name for donation. In the description I put "3 full 13 gallon bags of clothes". When i did my taxes this year I used it's deductable from turbotax (helps you do deductions) and it came to around 450. I put that as clothes deductions. It didn't raise my refund too much (maybee 20 - 30 dollars). However, I was told this will probably raise a red flag because of the amount I put there. Someone told me that 450 is soo much. I have a recipt but it's only stating quantity not individual itmes. The chairty has the carbon copy. Will this be a problem.

she always says that its not enough. does it have to be added to something else to make it more of a deduction??? i dont understand. for the past 3-5 years the amount has been anywhere from 3000.00 to 6500.00. whats up? surley it can be used-seems like a waste to me to pay so much and not be able to use it as a deduction. HELP !!!!!!!!

Hey everybody,

I filed my taxes not too long ago and I completely forget to include the salary from one of my jobs. I only worked this job for one day last year and I made a total of $120. The only thing is, the company made a mistake and there were no federal taxes taken out of the check and I didn't catch the mistake. Do you think the government will actually even realize a mistake so small, and if so, will I be penalized? Right now I'm schedule to get a refund of around $800. I really don't want to file an amended return as I need the money immediately and amended returns usually take 6-8 weeks to come back after you have filed them. Do ya'll think I can get away with this small oversight?

I inherited a house from my parents and sold it. I realize that since I sold it within a few months there will be no tax. However, do I have to report the sale in any way on my tax returns?

Also, I was the beneficary on my father's annuity. He rolled over his IRA into this annuity. Am I required to count this as income and pay taxes on it? I received a 1099 on this.
