My son is 18. He earned about 4k in 2006. He lives with his mother and i paid child support for 7 months. He arguably provided half of his own support and wants to claim himself. If not then i can claim him. I'm happy to let him claim himself but if he does and i don't claim him would the IRS make him prove that he provided half of his own support and/or what would they do if we both claim the exemption.

I purchased a stock about 10 years ago and have been reinvesting for the last 7 years. It has split multiple times and I have sold and donated a portion of the original purchase. I have never touched the reinvested shares. I accumulated all the purchase prices. What do you report the purchase dates and can you report them all as long term gains. How do you report the last year stocks?

Now that the Democrats have control again I hear from our accountant that they are tring (again) to pass the law that makes everyone collect state sales tax on sales. In other words if you buy something from California you will pay their sales tax. This will also effect internet sales because companies will now have to collect the '50 states' state tax on everything they sell. Sounds like an accounting nightmare not to mention the '$ucking $ound' out of the economy/your pocket when this goes into effect!

This must be happening quietly because I can find nothing on the proposed law. Anyone heard of it and do you know where to get info about it?

Thanks

Is it really worth filing an amended return for this measly amount? Wouldn't it just get rounded down to 0 anyways?
