this is the very first time i owe money when filing the 1040. so my question is should i send in my owe $$$ to the irs right away or wait till april 17 which is the deadline for submitting the 1040?

Make sure it is postmarked by April 17th this year. You can now also pay on-line.

It's totally up to you, but many people like to wait until closer to the deadline so that they can keep their money and earn interest on it, instead of letting the government have it right away.

Many people also recommend that you send returns with payments certified/return receipt so that you have proof of timely mailing.

If you e file you be given a voucher to pay BY APRIL 17 . If you mail them payment will expected at that time

Wait until the deadline...you can be earning the interest on it in the meantime instead of the IRS.

It's your choice, but if you have it now, would be a good idea to send it and not have to worry about forgetting to do it later.
