Particularly when your immediate says there are errors but doesn't mention specifics. If it's numerical, we aren't going to know the correct info.

The corporate payroll dept is also unresponsive.

Is this normal or is this company acting improperly?

It's not "standard practice", it's MANDATORY.

They required BY LAW to send a corrected W-2 to you. No standard practice BS .
If you are having trouble contact the IRS, and let them call payroll, the penalties for employers who do not comply with IRS code are steep, they will send you a corrected form post-haste

I work in payroll at my company, and I believe your company is acting improperly, as you put it. They should've checked the W2s before sending them out. I'm sorry you have to deal with stupid people. Good luck with your taxes, though.
