I'm trying to figure out how I paid $867.24 to socical security tax W/H out of $13,987.76 Socical security wages, when my total wages for the year, as stated on my W2, was listed as $12,427.76 with federal income tax W/H of only $302.00. Also, the W2 from my other job (which was held for part of the year) is showing the same scenario. How can my W2 list my SS wages as higher then my total wages?

I'm doing my taxes and wondering if I qualify for the Telephone Tax Refund. I've had a cell phone with Cingular since 2002. I'm not sure if I was paying "Long distance" tax, but I would make the assumption I was.

Has anyone run into this? Can I call Cingular and ask them to verify it?

I did my return on H&R blocks software. All was fine until i went to do my state return and it inputs everything i used on my federal for the state. It showed my state being an ungodly amount ($7800). I quickly retraced my steps and found the problem. The problem was when i put in my different city locations ( construction worker) it added the state tax each time but it was for all the same state. Apparently the tax software didn't catch it and i caught it too late. So now i have 1030 dollars too much in my account. What do i do?? thanks

Try this:
Assume you bought a Treasury Note maturing in 6 months for $24800 (face value=25,000) and held it untill it matured. Do you account for the $200 as a short term capital gain (where it seems to be reported on the 1099) or as treasury interest? Is it still taxable as a gain by my state (CA)?

So IRS withhold the taxes of my partner because it seems there was 2 W2's sent in for 2003 thus IRS is saying he owe taxes. When he called, the rep told him he was working for another company that year and this is totally not true. The actual return filed for that year was for the company he is with now and was working with for the entire year in 2003.

So my question is, why would a past employer send in a W2 for a worker who wasn't even with that company in the said year? How come IRS didn't notice that in 2004, 2005 but only now in 2006?

Any advice how to proceed with this and convince IRS that what they have on file is totally not true. My partner has the W2 and Tax Return he filed for 2003 as evidence that he was with working for his present company.and not the one they are claiming he was working with.

Are companies allowed to send in tax information for employees who left the job LONG BEFORE the tax year being filed for?
