There should be a number on the letter you received, along with the name of the reviewer. Call them and ask what they want. What has possibly happend is someone else claimed her on their return OR fat-fingered the SSN of their child and got your child's SSN by mistake.

Typical things that the IRS might want would be things to prove that she's your daughter, that she lives with you, and that you are providing more than half of her support. Such things as a copy of her birth certificate and SS card for starters. If she's in school, a statement from the school that she is attending school. If she has a physician or pediatrician, a statement from them as well can help.

Don't delay on this, however. Call the number on the letter and speak with the person handling your case. It's entirely possible that you could clear it up over the phone, especially if it's a SSN error, either on your part or someone else's.

Sounds like someone else also claimed her. If she's living with you, you shouldn't have any problem with the IRS, except unfortunately your refund will probably be delayed while they sort it out. If they asked for specific information, give that to them. Ok, a baby won't have school records - send them a picture of her crib in your home. You might end up getting something like letters from your family and friends and neighbors. It probably won't come to that though - the other person who claimed her will probably be disallowed long before it goes that far.

Good luck.

Since your daughter is an infant, you should have medical records that prove that she is living at your address. Gather those documents as well as her birth certificate and that should do it. I don't know what filing status you used when you filed but just a word of advice - don't use HOH if you really don't need to. If your income can be effectively reduced to zero or near zero through standard deduction and exemptions, use single. You'll still get EIC and any other credits you're entitled to and you'll keep the IRS off your back.

School records, Dr Records showing your address as the address of record is her address , a copy of your lease showing that the landlord recognises her as a tenant, a letter from a family Priest or Pastor.

No one else can claim her but somebody may be trying to, like her mother. Does she have your daughter's SSN? Is this the first year you have claimed her as a dependent? As long as you can prove that she's your daughter, she lives with you and you support her and that you have legal custody, this is just a formality.

I know what you mean. People are sooo annoying these days.

Give them what they want, I guess, long as they don't try to do anything to carp your free rights.

Never let anyone take your rights. family, friends, government. Stand for what is right in face of it all. Long as it's pretty harmless, just give em what they want, n get em off your back.

Hope this helps!
