My wife and i are both self-employed. We have approx. $60,000 in write offs and 1 child we can claim. I am trying to find enough expenses to at least break even on the taxes, but so far i only have $60,000.

Hi,
I E-filed my return with HRblock on 02-07-07
I also filed my neices, my nephews and sons the same day.
They have small returns less than 2000, all depostited today
Mine, a refund of 13,000 has said unless errors detected, refund by 02-20-07
Now, the IRS site says we are experienceing delays in processing your return. New expected refund date of 03-06-07

Waht exactly does that mean? Is it due to the large refund?
Why is mine delayed an additional two weeks?

He worked for an outfit and got no benefits. Will he have to pay social security on his earnings too? He doesn't have the money because he thinks all money he makes is his and does not want to pay tax or any extra on anything. He has in the past tried to work under the table, but now the IRS is making it harder and harder for him to hide. His grandfather who was raised on a family farm in upper state New York in a family of 13 kids during the depression taught him that. He was in jail for the last 6 months of this past year for driving to endanger and destroying $1000 in property to avoid a ticket for a suspended license (this because he would not pay fines) and an uninspected vehicle. He will have a probation officer. He said even if the state says he has to have health insurance, he will refuse. He has a son and ex wife to whom he pays no child support. He got hitched to crack for a while with his ex wife approving marijuana right through to crack cause all her cousins did it

I lived with my parents until May of 2006. After I moved out, we stopped talking. This year, when filing my taxes, can they claim me as a dependent? On the question on the form about whether or not somebody else can claim me should I put yes or no? Also, do I round the numbers up to whole dollar amounts? Help would be greatly appreciated!!

I am trying the turbo tax online for the first time and so far have gotten through most of it no problem. However, when I implemented in a couple of charitable donations (total of $400) and also a deduction for gas coming from PA to CA for work, it didn't change my amount at all. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong as I'd like to get this done this weekend. Thanks!

I thought that 1099's had to be post marked by Jan 31 just like W2's. If I am right can you get the company penalized for sending it late and if so, how.

I have a condo on a golf course that I rent out mostly short term. The heat pump/AC broke down entirely in 2006. It was not repairable so I had to replace it with a new one for a cost of $4000. I cannot determine from the tax publications if this is a deductible repair/maintenance expense or an improvement that must be depreciated. Granted it is a big expense but it had to be done to keep the property in good operating condition, but then again it does prolong the useful life of the property but adds little to the value of the property (every residence must have a heat/AC system that works). An argument could be made that it meets either definition ("expense" or "improvement") in IRS Pub. 527. I don't care which is right. Since I do my own taxes so I just want to put it down correctly and don't want to be audited over it.
Someone who knows about the tax treatment of such things please answer. Thank you.

My sister and her family moved in with me in December and they have filed their taxes using my address:{ How can I file my taxes as head of household and not get into trouble. According to their accountant, it was his mistake in using the new address. I should file using my address as 2309 1/2 and it should go through without amy problems. do they take it out of your current refund? I had mine direct deposited but it is less than it should be and is almost the exact amount I owed from 2 years ago. I tried calling the IRS but there apparently is no way to talk to a real live person!!!
Thanks!
