My employer has a 403(b) and I set up an IRA account in 2006. Can I contrbute money to both this year?

Do I need to max out the contributions to 403(b) before adding money into an IRA?

If I can only contribute to the 403(b), but I've already put money into the IRA this year, can I still write it off on my '07 taxes?

Thanks,
David

I filled my income tax 4 weeks ago online, they were supposed to deposit my refund on Feb 2,07 nope not there, now they are saying they are just reviewing it, and Im supposed to get a letter saying if they are going to release it or need additional info, if they release it it will be 2-4 weeks!!!! When I call the IRS I get a different answer. Has anyone gotten a letter? What does it mean? Why do they have my return already for 4 weeks and no answers??? Has anyone been through this???? I was informed last year that the uk national lottery doesn't use the internet and doesn't conduct lottery claims over the internet. The address of the E-mail I received is exactly the same except for one number in the address. with all the lottery scams going on I wrote the address given to me and explained my concerns. Do I dare trust this man Mercy Williams whom claims to be the uk fidciary claims agent (ukfiduciaryclaims1@yahoo.co.uk) the other name mentioned on the form is Sir Richard K Loyd, Co-ordinator. Please Help me with any info concerning these individuals and the lottery in which they say they represent. I've checked the Ripoff Report and found nothing on the names of these people or the return E-Mail address.

I am married and have a summer internship payment, so I have to file because my wife is working. Now, the employer sent me a 1099 Misc-Income. Should I treat that as "self-employed" or as "other income"?

Why does it say that my refund was direct deposited on 2/16/07 but it's not in my account and it says not to call them to find out until 2/21/07 because there is nothing they can do until then? Where would the money be?

The papers say that my ex gets to claim my son every other year on taxes and this was his year and he's already filed but he's never paid child support. Is it legal to claim him as a dependent when he's not even supporting him? My son lives with me and goes to school here.

The IRS website is saying that is WAS direct deposited, but that's wrong. I rechecked my account # and the banks routing # and everything is correct on my e-filed tax form. They keep saying to wait until the 21st and if it's not there then to contact IRS. I can't wait that long. I have bills that need to be paid NOW. It's the weekend so I can't do anything about it now, but can anyone tell e when I SHOULD be receiving it? If not 16th, then when?

Is it possible for the IRS to take back a refund they already gave me? My husband and I filed a joint return a few weeks ago, with a 3600 refund. The IRS website told me that a direct deposit in this amount was scheduled to be made yesterday (Friday the 16th). I called my husband yesterday (overseas in germany) to find out if the deposit had been made. He went to the ATM, checked it, and said that all 3600 had been deposited. Then he called me this morning and said that the ATM was saying that the money was not there anymore. Is this possible? Can the IRS just take the entire amount of the refund back without notice, and that quickly? We're talking about hours here, and the IRS is not exactly opened on the weekend! Help!!!

I hope this is the correct place to ask this question.
I purchased a new truck that weight 8800 lbs this year for my Rental property business.
I use it 100% for the business and have another car for my personal use.
I put it into service in October of last year ( 2006 )and was wondering how much I can take off on the 179 deduction.
The problem is I didnt keep a mileage log but have all of my receits for gas, oil and all Maintenance.
Can I take the 179 deduction if I dont have a mileage log to prove the business use of the truck?

We moved from Florida to Tennessee last year. We improved house in florida before selling. We did not live in Florida house for full 24 months so we are being charged capital gains. We were told we could not claim remodeling/repair costs of house in Florida. Also when we moved to TN., after living in it for only a few months,we sold the first home(duplex)we purchased in TN.,to buy a house with a back yard.
We were informed by our tax prep lady the duplex could not be counted or we could not claim the loss on the house in Florida due to Tennessee tax laws.
Why are we unable to claim the cost of remodel on first house in Florida which includes home remodeling and cost of new water well. Can anyone help to clarify the real estate tax laws in state of Tennessee?
