My huband and I are filing a joint tax return, but I am the only one that had income for 2006. I will have to file a injured spouse form since he has child support arrearages, and I am due a refund on federal and state. On the form 8379 injured spouse part 2 shouldn't everything for me go in (b) allocated to injured spouse? Turbo Tax put my info under (c) allocated to other spouse. I have been trying to contact them, but not having much luck. I am not going to send it in until I am clear how to do this. My state is not a 50/50 state also.

My employer says I can pick to get either w-2 from him or a 1099. Should I pick base on how much tax I'll need to pay? How should i look at this, I won't make a lot from the job, should that be a consideration too?

Through no fault of either the employee or employer, some wages could not be paid during certain months over the past years. Now the employer wants to repay all of those wages. Will those wages be taxed as this years income, and will that income bump up the employee into a really high bracket? What is the mechanism to properly report this to the IRS? ( I saw previous answers to this question, but not very complete, any new ideas?)

I thought the amount was $12,000 to every individual. Can a husband and wife both gift? Example, father and mother each gift $12,000 to four kids in one year. Can the total of $96,000 be deducted from their taxes as gifts?

I have been offered a part-time tutoring position. I would be working as an independent contractor. I'm not sure if this would even be a consistent income but I believe that over time I would be increasing the hours I tutor. I'd like to know what is the proper procedure for reporting small amounts of income like this. Would it fall under self-employment where I'd have to pay estimated quarterly taxes. Is there a minimum you have to expect to earn before this is a requirement? Thanks!

Even though I lost the entire property, the IRS says the the mortgaged amount for the property (mid-100,000s) counts as income (because it was a "cancellation of a debt").

I am filing married this year-should I file jointly or separately since my spouse is in the military and I was in college and we lived apart the entire year? Also, so far on turbo tax it is telling me I get no state refunds and a very low federal--is this correct and is it because I am now married whereas before I always got a higher federal refund and state refunds?? How come it will not let me enter in educational deductions just because I am married filing seperately?

i have filed my taxes with jackson hewitt this year and i got back a little over 1200 for my fedaral and a little over 500 for my state . I made about 20,325 and they took out about 4,372 dollars in taxes. I claimed my mother who is disable and my brother who is 20 years old. I did the estimate on H&R block tax estimator and it said that i should have been getting a little over 5,000 back for my claim and also for the claim as head of household. i want to know if what jackson hewitt gave me back sound about right or H&R block. and if it does not sound right what jackson hewitt did then is there some body that i can speak to about this problem after i have already filed my taxes or will i have to take a lost.
