I am building a new house and our builder wants $35k for a bonus room above our garage.(14'x24') I'm a first time buyer and not sure if this is too much money. The bonus room would also come with a bathroom. If this is too much money, how should I go about getting it cheaper?

We live in NY now. We plan on doing this in 2 years, when we graduate for college. We all understand what this is going to require.

We are going to save money now. We all have jobs, can drive, etc.

Our plan: move to cali a month before college starts and get jobs, and an apartment. WE split the rent. We understand the responsiblity such as not constantly partying.

My question: What am i forgetting. I will add additional details as the answers ask for them. so check back.

ALSO we plan on moving to the san diego area. What should we know.

and a question, please don't be offended. Where in california are caucasians the minority? please no offense.

My husband and I have found a 1200 sq ft Doublewide home on a beautiful spot of land. We could buy the lot behind it and it would make it a couple of acres the house sits on in a secluded area in the beautiful hill country. We were going to lease the house because we will probably not be here but a year or two but then thought we'd buy it, add to it, buy the lot behind it and try to resale it for more. The price now is 55000 plus the 5000 for the lot behind it. Would it be worth two years of adding to and remodling to turn around and resale it?

And it said nothing about buying and selling tax liens for an immediate profit. Is there any way to make an immediate profit without having to wait for them to pay you the taxes or for the foreclosure??

I'm considering purchasing a house and renting it out since I have about 65k. However, I have NO idea where to start. I've read that buying a house is a great investment yet I know nothing about real estate. I'm a full time college student and would like to continue to be one, without needing to work. How do I get started???

We currently live in michigan around detroit. We are looking to go to monroe county. The problem is what we want and can spend dont match up very well. So I was hoping to find a forclosed/bank owned home. I know their are tons of them out there, but no one wants to help me find them. I do tons of yahoo and google searches but all i come up with is where you have to pay etc. There has to be a way to get some list without payinig a bunch of money to find out the details.

If someone has a 30-year mortgage, can foreclosure take place at year 29 or does the equity in the house at that point take care of it?

Is foreclosure only possible when there is below 50% equity in a house?

I am just trying to get an idea of length into a loan that foreclosure takes place, as opposed to rates per 1,000 loans. I can't find this information anywhere. If someone has info how the lien process works this would also be appreciated.

I got behind on my payments and was working with a foreclosure specialist company that said they had a handle on everything...yesterday I find out nothing as been done and know I have to be out of my house in 30 days. Is there anything else I can do? The lender says it is to late and won't work with me even though I explain what happened.
Can anyone suggest advice?

I have just passed my Real Estate Salesperson exam last week. I am going to start training for Century 21 tomorrow. I am interested in hearing some comments on how other Realtor's view their career? Any pro's or con's? Do you spend more money for your career or is the income good? I'm worried that I will spend more money out than get in. How much did you make the first year?

We are going to close on the house somewhere between December 14th-21st...should we wait and get a 30 day lock, or do it now while the rates are low? Do you guys think the rates are going to go any lower...I have listed our quote below

6% - with .375 point

people always say because Maryland is "near" DC/Baltimore, even though areas near DC/Baltimore are really bad and crime-ridden (and YET houses are still expensive), and even though in most cases you have ton drive quite a ways even to get to these cities. And I would not even care about being near a big city. I just need to find a cheap house, and I would not even mind going to another state, but my father doesn't want to leave Maryland and I myself still can't drive even though I am 21 because I have not learned how to drive, and it is too difficult a process to get a license in Maryland. So why are all of the houses in Maryland so expensive, even being in a really bad area? I mean at least with every other state there are some cheap houses, but I never see any in Maryland...Is there a site where I can do a statewide search? Link?

I previously rented a room in my home to a tenant. The person moved and asked me to hold their mail because it was costly for them to change court papers. This person has not paid me 2 months of rent and refused to sign any agreement to pay in the future. I said I would be nice and hold ONE week's worth of mail to which the person picked up. Now the person is saying I agreed to allow the person to use my address for 2 months or so for court papers and that I would hold the mail for 2 months and contact that person promptly when it comes. I said I will return mail to sender from now on and the person got mad and attempted to blackmail me. I have a friend's mails held for her in a drawer in my house because she's in Iraq. The tenant said she saw I have mail from another previous tenant piled up and have a witness to prove it, which to me sounds like the person thinks she has something over on me and is attempting a blackmail. What should I do?

Heres the deal, we went to the bank this morning, the bank tried to call the lawyer to get a closing date, (lawyer was in court) so we couldnt set a date today, however that is in the works. The loan officer said they "we're preparing the packet." So my question is what is the "packet"?

We have already done all inspections, appraisals, title search, etc. This week we will do our final walk-through and get our closing date. What are the odds that we will actually close on this house? Just to put my mind at ease! Thank you guys so much. You have helped me so much throughout this process!

Now the neighbor is arguing that since the river has changed course that my land now is his; i do not beleive this is true; it cut off a chunk of land nearly 60 acres in size ; that is now inaccesible from the rest of my property. What is the rule when something like this happens; surely a person doesnt lose their land simply because of a change in the way the river runs!
