My husband and I have been trying to lower and eventually eliminate most of our debts. I have found a problem and need some opinions. Our home mortgage or our car loan--which do we work on eliminating first? Our home--currently owe $7,500 with 10.25% interest with 175min monthly pymnt. Our car--currently owe $8,300 with 7.990% interest and min monthly 292.
I keep getting different ideas from reading articles on the net about which is better to payoff first--pay your car off first so you won't be "upside down" if you decide to sell, payoff house first so you don't ever have to worry about foreclosure on your home, snowball debt, pay high interest first, etc, etc, etc.
We only have 1 credit card and we have been actively working to eliminate it and should do so by the end of this year. We will then have an extra 350 each month to put towards either home or car, suggestions??

I have some high interest credit that we can never seem to pay down. We have not added to the balance in over a year though and I am more than willing to cut them up. Should I borrow from my 401K and pay myself back at 8% interest to pay off the cards?

What are my options ? Can banks do this ? They say they are doing it for security reasons, but if that is the real concern why cant they simply close it and deposit the proceeds into my checking account ?

My financial situation is such that I may need to file bankruptcy. I am starting a new job and as it is a small company I may need to get health insurance on my own instead of through the company and the employer will reimburse me for a portion. I am wondering how filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy will affect this, if at all. Any assistance would be VERY helpful. Thank you!

I need to pay off about $!,000.00 worth of bills. I have a CD that is about to mautre in 2 months. I'm thinking of cashing out the CD to pay off the debts and remove the noose from my neck. My friend is telling me to use the power of leverage on this one. She says use the CD as collateral, get a small loan, pay off the debts, and still have my money basically in the bank. She says this is a better way than just taking the money paying bills then I'm left with nothing startina ll over from scratch again. Can I do what she says and does this method make sense?

I opened a personal line of credit with the bank, but didn't realize what it was. I was thinking to close it, however, I was told that it would make my credit report look bad if I did that. Is it good to have a personal line of credit, if you are not thinking to use it anytime soon. I'm not to sure how that works. Thanks for any advise.

I usually get paid weekly on a Wednesday but today I checked my transactions and it didn't go through. Could this be because there was a public holiday on Monday and it will need an extra day for it to process? I can't call my boss up right now because he doesn't work during the day.

Me and my mom were just discussing swiss bank accounts.. for fun, really.. just wondering about them. My mom guesses that if you have a swiss bank account (and you live in the US) there would be no need to disclose it in the US.. I disagree. I say that the US wants/needs to know all of your "income." These are just guesses, and as I mentioned, just for fun (saw it in a movie, and then we were talking about it afterwards).. but does anyone actually know anything about it? I kind of want to prove that I'm right, hehe.

My wallet fell out a week ago at the movies, looked everywhere and its gone..

It had DL, SS Card, Debit, and insurance info and Dr. appointmennt notice.

I canceled alll debit and credit cards, ordered a new drivers license, and put a fraud warning on all my credit. As far as the social security card (it was the original), not sure what to do. They do not have a fraud hotline unless you are already a victim. Nothing has happened with identity fraud since a week.

Is there any other steps you would recommend to protect my identity? Thanks.

My boyfriend makes roughly 45k. He has about 20k in debt including 2 car loans and mainly credit cards. He is never late or in bad standings with any of these loans and cards and usually pays over the minimum. We would like to getting in the process of purchasing a home next year, so he's trying to eliminate some of this debt because he learned he's only at average with his credit score. He was thinking of doing this via a personal loan and pay off everything and then only pay the loan. However, he's tried three different places and everywhere tells him no. I'm not understanding the problem and don't know what else to tell him to try? Or what to say to keep his head high that our dream of owning a home will come true? Will it help any if we do a loan together? Combined we are at 55k and I only have meger credit because I only have one card because I havent established credit I can't really obtain credit, but would I help him out any?

I know bankruptcy should be a last resort but some people have different personal limits. I would like to know your personal answer.

What's the least amount of debt it would take for you to make the decision to file bankruptcy? And what is your annual income if you don't mind?
