By cost of living I mean:
- Rent. Even if you don't rent, how much would it be if you did?
- Utilities (electric, heating/cooling, water)?
- Groceries and household necessities?

And where do you live?

Can I send a normal money order that I get from the Post office? Or what? I dont have a bank account or anything, so I dont really have much to work with..

Just curious as to what people keep in their bank accounts usually?? I heard the other day that a HUGE amount of americans live paycheck to paycheck.
I'm looking for adults, not teenagers.

okay i need help on something(no nasty comments)

i deposited 214.00 into my checking account thursday
the deposit posted to my account friday.

then i went back friday and and withdrew 130.00
but i didn't use all of it so at the atm machine i deposited 22.00 back into my checking account.

i made one check card purchase of 1.12 at a gas station.before i made the 22.00 deposit to my account.

any deposit made after 2pm don't reflect till the next bussiness day.

after all the transactions friday i had a available balance of 100.88

this morning i had to get my husband medicine so i use my debit card to make a purchase of 15.00.after that i went to my bank and withdrew 40.00 this would then leave me a available balance of 45.88

next i went to eckards and made a check card purchase of 3.48 this would leave me a available balance of 42.04,if i make a purchase of 20.00 with my debit card would this cause my account to go into overdraft?

I mean some banks say they can only take less than 10k deposit one time other wise it will be reported to IRS and the others say if you deposit that much money you'll have to pay taxes to the govt? Is that true even though the money was saved from lawn mowing, paper routes and allowances combined? Are we living in a communist system if this is true?

After full payment is made, I don't want to make the same mistake again. Which is better for my credit report: cancel the cards, or have the accounts closed "at customer's request"? Btw, the cards will be cut up.

I want to know how many of you are saving for your retirement...and if you have a pension fund do you think much to it? and do you invest in other things as well ...what is the best way to do this...
I have investments etc but have never set up a pension fund, but my dad is always nagging me to do it ... but I just think that pensions were better in his day (he is retired on the usual 50% final salary etc etc ) and I can't help but think they are a waste of time and other things are better to invest in... and also to be honest I don't really want to be tied down set amounts each month .. everyone knows how hard it is just to live these days ..

Guys you know what? i feel i need talk to him about this issue. This morning he ask me to borrow money to him for gasoline, it wasn't lot money, but i don't feel right. Later i found out his bank statement shows 11 times over-drafted charges, two out of his 4 credit cards are charging over-limite and late fees. Plus together he got about $600 just for those penalty fees. He is screwing up!!we being living together about 3 months, is that too early to talk about these? or consider that is all his money and problems, should i just stop worrying too much and leave it alone. He is about 11 years older than me, i thought he knew about those better than i do. Bills should be paid on time, otherwise don't spend money to invite friends come to a expensive lunch, get a Iphone and purchase a $500 game station craps he never ever use. I am sure he will be in debt soon if he don't stop. How should i talk to him, will it embarance him?

Over the last year my husband and I came into some financial difficulties. We were unable to make a large payment to our electric company after making payment arrangements after a shut off notice. As a result our electric was shut off and we had to move. We have children and would really like to go back to the home we are paying a morgage on. There is no funds for things like this here in Michigan right now.

I will be receiving a settlement and they say I can either receive it in a lump sum or annuity. My thought process is that if I take the lump sum (780,000) I could put it in the bank and just withdraw interest accrued monthy and that would help pay the big bills (house, car, motorcycle) and that lump sum never gets touched versus if I choose the annuity, then the money never gets a chance to accrue interest cuz it would be much smaller amount and go straight to the bills, anyone have thoughts about this or think my idea is good or bad? b the way I'm 39 since people would ask how old I am , thanks
