I made a pretty dumb decision and lent a close friend 7000 dollars. I gave her a while to pay it off, well here we are 4-5 months later and she keeps telling me that she is going to pay me and continues to make up excuses. However I did make her go get a notarized letter which states as follows, "Payment to one (John Doe) in the amount of 7,150 dollars from one Miss (Jane Doe) is to be paid no latter then March, 1st 2007. If payment is not received by on or before that date legal action may be taken" And it is signed by her and it has the notary stamp. My question is regardless of how she spend the money which she did pretty foolishly, am I legally entitled to recover my money in a court of law?

Ok so I am A 19 year old freshman, studying at school of visual arts in New York city. As of today my family decided it was time for me to get out into the world fully and make it on my own. The only problem is I live in New York city where everything is more expensive than it needs to be and I have no money. About a month ago my family agreed to help me fund an apartment that I will be living in this summer with a roommate. However, since my family took back their offer to help me pay for this apartment, I am in need of a legal and fast solution to come up with close to 3000 dollars by the end of the month in order to pay for my half of the apartment. I cannot back out of this agreement because I signed an agreement. My family did not, so they are not held by any legal obligations. As of today my family cannot help me in any way but by giving advice. What do I do?

My parents have received a letter from the above debt collectors, ordering them to pay a sum of money taken out with capital one. My parent are very old time and only have debit cards, therefore they obviously havent taken out this loan. Company said that a person with the same name and date of birth had taken out the loan but the address given was a place my parents hadnt visited. When they called the company to find out what it was all about the gentleman in the call centre was very abrupt and wanted a copy of there signature. He ended up putting the phone down as my parents were giving him as good as they got. can anyone advise me on what the best thing woukd be for them to do next. Thank you.

Just watched the trailer to maxed out. A doccumentary about debt and the evils of the credit industry. What is the truth? Is credit card debt really unsecured or is there a back door where you are screwed if you get into debt? I do know former corporate execs who hit a bad patch..Unemployment, Divorse, Illness and needed to live on credit cards..Now some of them have 200K + in debt and no viable income. What can happen to them?

I have three children... I am not rich. I didn't have any money in the past to try and save, and now that I get child support, I actually want it to go to my children's future. I can tuck away around 25 dollars a month per child... but what should I do with it? Put it in a savings account, buy bonds, invest? I have no clue (I was always bad with my own money). I have 12 years til they start going to college, if they don't graduate early. So I need to figure this out pretty quickly, lol.

I am worried about my parents and their finances. I am looking for a list of questions that I should ask them to get a full understanding of what they have. For example,do you have a will? Where is it? Bank accounts? Etc. I just want to be ready for the inevitable and want to be able to step in and help out if one or both of them die.

frank_okolo2007@yahoo.de is an email you can prove is used in scams. I fail to see why you allow it. Perhaps a law suit would make you see things a lot differently.

I 've been helping my daughter financially since 1990. Recently I retired & since have given her money which I explained "in detail" had to be repaid. The amounts total $4,700. since Sept. of 2005. She was to start paying me $200. a month starting Jan. 2006, I've received a total of $800. to date.

She has a great position & makes twice my income but she always has an excuse. However this doesn't stop her from going to concerts, "Burner" events, trips to Atlanta for parties, trips to the mountains to visit friends & next weekend she is off on a camping trip in northern WV - a "tree-hugger camp out".

Last week she gave me a check for $200. but later on called to ask me not to deposit it because she "was short" this week.

We had a dinner appointment for my bithday, she broke it @ the last minute. (she often breaks appointments like this) She lives 20 miles away & rarely comes over. Long story short, I'm feeling VERY USED. She says I'm bitchy, moody, & I say she's irresponsible.

Income: $16/hr, $400 take-home/week = $1,600/month
Expenses: $750 rent, $300 car note, $150 insurance, $200 food, $150 student loan, not much left for miscellaneous bills and surprises(utilities, vehicle maintenance, speeding tickets, gas) = deficit for savings. Maybe bankruptcy will bring me a little bit of relief. Anybody else having a difficult time?

I have been asked to be the executor of my elderly Uncle and Aunt's estate. They feel their children would not be impartial. What would this entail? If it would help my family at a difficult time, I would like to help, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into first.

I was hoping someone out there could give me a legal way to obtain a business' bank account number for reimbursement. We have been involved in a nine month long labor dispute and finally the descision was made in our favor. The employer niether appealed nor payed the fine to us. The Deputy Labor commissioner said that if we can get the employer's bank info, ie account, branch, and name of the bank then we would be able to be done with this whole thing a lot sooner. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances we aren't really on good terms with the employer and don't think that he would gladly hand over his info. To make matters worse we also have a small claims action pending and probably won't get paid for that either. We are also worried that there the employer will file for Bankruptcy and we won't see anything!! Help before it's too late!! This man has pretty much ruined our lives!
Thanks!!
