Like the first poster said - not all banks/credit unions use ChexSystem.
You might want to go to www.chexvictims.com
They have an excellent database of banks and credit unions that do not use Chex.

Not all financial institutions use ChexSystems, even though it is highly recommended that they do so. Banks/credit unions don't like putting people on ChexSystems, so they do so only in extreme circumstances--usually if you write too many bad checks and never pay them back (which is a felony, btw), or if you commit other serious banking indiscretions. You need to pay back what you owe and even then, you will be on ChexSystems for 7 years afterwards.
If you were coming to me to open an account, if I saw that you had a ChexSystems hit and it was due to bad checks, say, when you were 17 or 18, and you're now in your late 20's or early 30's, I would consider opening the account after you had paid everything off. But definitely, you need to pay back what you owe, otherwise this thing will haunt you forever, and trust me: you don't want that.

not every bank in the country uses check systems. most do but not all. some credit unions also do not use check systems. the number is getting smaller and smaller. your best bet is to just pay off the old debt so you can clear up your credit report since those checks will be there as well. also, clearing up the debt will only give you a chance at getting your account. You can be left on check systems for up to 5 years even after you have paid your debt, wich can limit your ability to open accounts.
