I'm really curious, from an economic perspective. I could never figure out an answer to this. Someone said they make a killer amount of money "behind the scenes" by selling arms and ammunition. But I don't think that is enough, even if it's added to the established firms. I thought it was because after WWII their companies had a time advantage and just made their money back then and maintained foothold.

The US has soooo much money. Anytime, in any place, when there is a firm that is doing well, some US firm will buy them out, simply because they have so much money. In Canada, Tim Hortons, The Bay, Molson...all got bought out by US companies. In England, soccer teams, Liverpool, Manchester United, Portsmouth, and sooner or later even Arsenal...all have American owners.

What do they do that makes them so rich? Does it have something to do with their policies? Are the people just really enterprising (how do you get people to be enterprising)...WHAT MAKES THEM SO RICH!!??

I am an inventor and I'm developing a business plan for the purpose of developing and marketing a high performance electric motor that does not use gasoline at all. In theory, it can reproduce the same level of performance as a gasoline motor. The idea is to produce the motors, and sell them to distributors. The distributors (local automovtive repair facilities), in turn, sell and install the motors to the end-user. Who would be up for that?

Case Study: You're a large nat'l non-profit org who needs a puppet made for library gigs of your computer animated PBS character. A custom puppet will cost five thousand $$. But library gigs means low budget.

So you hold a contest with a month deadline. You offer four hundred $$ as a prize for the best puppet. Email it to Puppeteers’ groups & teachers’ groups. Promise to put a pic of the winner up & do a newsletter & website article about them.

You specify it exactly...stating that all puppets submitted must match those specs. Implying that this contest can't be won if the entries don't measure up. From your specs: the materials could run a hundred $$ or more. Time involved for an amateur = a min of 40 hrs
Thus:
-The winner gets reimbursed for materials & paid $7.50 an hour for labor requiring considerable skill
-All losers get nothing, loose $$ in materials/time & end up with a puppet they can't use or sell (copyrighted)
-You get a puppet for $4,500 off.

Ethical?

Canadian coins made after 2000 have a small p below the head of Queen Elizabeth, except for recent ones (post-2007), that have what looks like a fleur-de-lis below the head. Coins made before 2000 don't seem to have anything below the head.

I have a business customer who has been wonderful over the years. We have had some bumps in the road but have worked past them. Recently they have become more distant and communications have deteriated. They have shared that they are considering other companies. What advice do you have for getting things back on track? Are there any solid approaches for solving this problem? We have a face to face meeting coming up soon and any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
