ah! i heard about this. i even joined a group on facebook saying not to buy gas on may 15th. i dont have a car. but i'm gonna tell my parents not to buy gas on may 15th. hope it works lol

You really think so? Will they really lose money, or will people just spend the same, buying the same amount of gas, but on different days than May 15? If you use the same amount of gas that week, but just buy it on a different day, this is only showboating, and won't have any effect.
Gas prices go up and down a lot. "It worked in 1997"? Not.
If people bought more fuel-efficient cars, and drove less, supply would be improved, and prices would decrease. But as long as there's so many gas-guzzlers on the road, and people don't try to minimize driving, nothing much will happen. Are you old enough to remember the gas shortages in the mid-70's? Now there was true incentive to conserve. Apparently high prices aren't changing people's behavior.
