Can a bank garnish my wages without taking me to court? .... I took out a car loan about a year ago I was in a jam and took the first car they gave me since I had bad credit. I tried to take the car back a week after I had had it but they wouldn't so I had them repo it. I have been ignoring there calls etc. Because I was told it will just go on my credit report and be gone after seven years. they got a hold of me the other day and said they will garnish my wages unless I pay them?can they do this? what are my options?

Get this I wanted to buy a song on iTunes so I was checking if I had a dollar in paypal. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw these charges on my paypal account. I have no clue who TWC in elsegundo, ca. How did this happen.? I reported it to paypal right away and Im in the process of clearing this whole mess up. Its odd cos there was no money in paypal anyways so the charges were denied. It was four attemps by the same company for different amounts.

Okay, no one ever said life was fair. But, I fail to understand the reasoning as to why a bad account stays on your credit file for (at least) seven years from the "date of last activity".

For example, say you had an account that fell into collections in 2000; you would think it would fall off your credit report in 2007. But, say you took untill 2007 to pay the darned thing off. Now, the "date of last activity" on the account is 2007, so now the account will stay on your credit report as a negative for another 7 years...untill 2014. That's a total of 14 years for one negative account!

How is this fair to the consumer? That's 14 years to have a lower credit score, credit denials, higher interest rates, constantly having to explain the account should you apply for credit, etc.

Why don't bad accounts just fall off after having first been reported as a negative? Why is the date of last activity so important? Where's the incentive to actually pay the bill?

I'm 29 and have no outstanding debt other than student loans, which are in repayment and on time (always have been.) I've had a few accounts go to collections in the past, but never for more than $100. It's when I was young and irresponsible. They've all been paid off.

I have no major credit flaws (eviction, divorce, etc.) yet I still can't get approved for the most basic department store card.

I have had checking and savings accounts in good standing for over 10 years, a Visa debit card, plus the occasional utility bill in my name. I've never had a credit card, though.

What are some things I can do to increase my credit score? Please be as detailed as you like.

Is it the whole cost of the purchase plus the interest rate? Or is it a portion of the purchase plus the interest rate (like loans)?

I'm not interested in things like frequent flyer miles and incentive programs.

Also, which are the most harsh about late payment fees and finance charges?

I was thinking about purchasing either the Vantage Score or the Fico Score. Some so called experts say the Vantage score is a joke and say do not waste your money. I want others opinion.

Im 17 years old and I was stupid when i was a little younger and got some credit cards. I maxed out all of my cards not being aware that it would mean anything not to pay it back. I also got a few cell phone accounts and direct tv, hehe...i was only 15 or 16 and i was living on my own, i didnt know right from wrong then. Overall it is about $2500 in debt, will this be a major mark against my credit? And please dont judge me for being so stupid, i know it was a bad move now, and i have learned from my mistake. Now i just need help.....

Like most young people who get their first line of credit I have managed to screw up royally. I don't have what is considered serious debt by the companies who help people get out of debt, but it is still bad enough that I am slowly getting in a deeper mess. I was doing fine until some medical bills came along, and now I am close to losing my truck because of some other bills that had to be paid to get treatment. Anyways what I am getting at, is there anyway to get financial help for debt problems if you have a good job, but you just can't pay all of your bills each month?

Myself and my soon to be fiance are in a lot of credit card debt. Between the both of us we always pay our bills on time but now it is starting to become a problem where it is getting overwhelming. I want to get a loan to pay off everything in 4-5 yrs but don't want to work with a debt solution company if it is going to hurt our credit.

I made a purchase on my Discover card this weekend for $470 when my available credit was $136.

There is a $1000 limit and I have paid most of what I owed. But the limit is still $136.. Why is it so low? Do they increase it after the statement due date even though I made payment early??

Also what is going to happen? Will they just deny the transaction or will this be affecting my credit score as well?

Ok, I'm 24 years old. I've never had a credit card, by choice. I've been trying to keep my debt down so that when I'm married and start a family we won't be drowning in debt. I've made it fine until now.

I'm in a position where I need at least $300 (preferably more) FAST. I have no one who I can turn to and ask for the money. And it's for rent, so obviously you can see that it's important. I have a job but I don't start it for a couple of days. So I know I won't get my first check in time to cover these expenses.

Basically I'm brainstorming how I can come up with this money in the way that will cause the least financial trouble down the road. The only ideas I have come up with are to either:

a) use a credit card, or
b) payday loan.

I am scared of payday loans, even though I have friends who have gotten then and said it wasn't that bad. I'm also scared of credit though, because I'm not an expert in it. And I'm not sure how it would work if I charged $300 so soon.
