I am 37 years old, African-American, gainfully employed in D.C., have lived, worked and studied abroad. I have a Bachelor's in French. I also have 60,000 dollars worth of student loans to pay back, a bad credit card history (years of just being irresponsible, but that's now over) I would say that I have about 4000 dollars to pay back credit card wise. I have now returned to the United States after having lived in Paris for 4 years and know now that CREDIT DOES MATTER. My goals are to own a loft apartment within the next 4 to 5 years.
I have already sent away for my free credit report. I have 500.00 in savings and pay 1000.00 dollars in rent. My paycheck after taxes gives me 1,034.00 every two weeks. How do I change my situation to achieve my goal? Are there any programs for first home buyers that I could take advantage of? I'm fabulous and broke. I am going to change this. I'm too smart to be financially inept. I need help, please. Thank you.

3 years ago I hit a rough stretch and defaulted on a cell phone bill and a few doctors bills. I want to know if I paid these Items now, If it helps or hurts my credit score. All four are listed as charge offs. My concern is that If I paid them now, They would show for another seven years. Also is there a major difference score wise between (charge off) and (Paid charge Off). I thank you fine folks in advance for helping me out.

I am 19 yr. old female who turning 20 in a couple of weeks. I have a really bad past. I used to drink alot, smoked all the time spend my money recklessly whatever it was I did it. When I was 18 I got a credit card that had a $200 limit and I have yet to pay it off... back then I didn't care... needless to say the principle and interest are sky high. Now that I'm trying clean up my life and be responsible... I have two jobs while going to school full time...I need help. I have to move out cause I can't live with mother any more, so I went with a friend to get an apartment. It is tax credit housing... I have money to pay rent but I'm not sure if they will approve. What can I do clean up the financial mess that I have made and make myself financially independent from my parents and financially stable and secure for the future? How do I clean up credit by the time I'm 22? Do you think the housing people will reject me?

On my credit report I have a discrepancy that is nearly 7 years old. It shows with the original creditor, and then two more times with two different collection agencies. And they are three different amounts! Also, the collection agency shows different account numbers and dates enabling them to show past the 7 years. The only thing that indeed ties them together is the original creditor is listed for each one.

Yes, I understand that I should pay it, but I would love to pay the fair amount. Is what they are doing legal? Can I file a discrepancy with the credit reporting agency?

Im currently working on rebuilding my credit and in the mail last week I received a pre-approval through Aspen mastercard. I filled out the online application and was approved, I received my card 7 days later and paid the ncessary $20 activation fee. Im now worried I entered into something bad. I noticed that the actual card is missing the signature Mastercard engraving "M" (look on any mastercard in your wallet/purse, there is an engraving of the letter "m" by the mastercard logo). Also, the website is lacking any real info about the company.

I read the welcome packet and it says the card was issued by First Bank and Trust in Brookings, SD. I checked their site and they have no info on such a card. Im really worried this is a ripoff and they have all my personal info including bank account numbers. Does anyone else have this card or can offer some advice?

(through other web searches, i noticed other people claim this card also goes by the name "freedom card mastercard")

I need money, but found out one of my credit card can give me 3.99% into my checking account. Now, my saving account give me 4.65% interest. But my credit card says will charge me $70 fee. Am I making small / very small profit, do you think, suppose they loan me $25,000 for a period of 9 months?

BTW, my saving account said the interest is compounded daily but credited at the end of the month.

Thanks!

Does it take 7 years from the time it was put on your credit report to be removed? Or how does that work? I just paid everything on my credit, and I know that it is going to show paid, but when will it be completly removed? thanks

I was talkin with someone and that person told me that it is not possible to get a loan from a bank or anywhere if you have two cars under your name and you are looking to buy the third one. Is that true? How is that possible though? if I want and I can afford to pay for my cars why cant I have 10 cars under my name?!!! (not exactly 10, just using an example here!!)

Hi,
I recently visited a BK lawyer and he said just don't pay them any more.
I have several small balances.
Capital One 600
Providian 1000
Orchard Bank 300
Bank of America 3500
Sears 1000
NY&Co 350
Not a whole lot of debt but can't afford them all. I live in NC and wage garnishment doesn't happen. What do you think about not paying?
