i'm a college freshman and basically, i'm a telemarketer at my school. i call alumni and parents of students and beg them for money. i have about 30 school days left until the semester ends and then i am transferring schools. i'll work 12 more times from here until the semester ends. i absolutely HATE this job. i also work on the days i have a really have school workload (mondays and wednesdays) and i'm falling behind in some of my classes. i would like to have my grades good enough so that they will transfer over. i feel my grades are more important right now. when i go to my other school, i will definitely find a job there (moving back home so i have a job waiting for me.) should i quit or stay?

Nurses, firefighters, doctors, and/or police officers do you assume that you are exempt from doing good things in your personal time? Do you think that your "Do Good" time is from when you punch into work and when you punch out?

Or hopefully, do you assume that your responsibilities to your community far surpasses your shift at work? Also do you feel more responible because of the work that you do?

Plus what is your take on "Frequent Flyers", compassion or annoyance?

Lots of questions I know, trying to save points.

It's taken me awhile to figure out what to do with my life, but I have finally figured out I want to be a guidance counselor.

I live in West Virginia and many people tell me that in order to become a guidance counselor and get a job, you need a degree in teaching and teaching experience. I do not have any interest in being a teacher at all.

At the college I will be attending it says they have an alternative program for students w/o a teaching degree and I think that allows you to be licensed as well...does anyone know anything about that?

I am wondering how hard it would be to land a job as a guidance, as many people tell me it's very difficult, what the job is like and what would be a good thing to get a BA in?

I was thinking Counseling, then I thought possibly social work, now I am still strongly thinking maybe sticking with counseling.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

All other managers when they have quit, have only given their two weeks notice (some even less) so that they don't have to train the new person, and therefore they will look good. They will look good because the new person will screw up a lot without the proper training, and everyone will be like, oh remember how smooth everything was going when so and so (the person who quit) was manager?
So anyway, should I do the same thing, OR should I give a month notice, so they can spend 2 weeks finding a replacement, and spend 2 weeks training them.

I quit because my job was given to another person & I was "given" a new job I hated. It was me and 11 2 year olds. Needless to say I was slightly out numbered and I didn't like the odds. I was scared to death that someone would get hurt.

I worked at the same place for 2 half years. I quit and now they asked me to come back my only problem is I'm worried she's going to try and screw me out of the raises that i had before and start me back out really low. Can they do this?? My husband says if she wont let me i just need to take the paycut and get over it but i really don't think it would be fair I' haven't worked there in just 4 months. How do i avoid all this? And if I don't like what money she is willing to give me what do i say??

I wouldn't start the new job until after I have my baby and finish maternity leave, because it's full time and right now I work part time, so I wouldn't start until June 2008. I told the new potential employer I want to take the position, but how often should I contact them, he said we'll stay in touch, I called him last a couple weeks ago, I see him on a regular basis because he works with my company, should I wait for him to call me next. I just don't know cause it's so far off.

Or if it is money, why?

I didn't even try to look for a summer job until I was 17 and 18 and then again (more seriously at age 20 after I graduated and had some college).

My point is, at those ages I wasn't motivated to do it even though in my state you can get a summer job at 14, with a worker's permit and parent's permission.

It was a plumbing apprenticeship from which I was told 2 weeks prior to being let go that I was doing fine. I think coming into winter they did not have enough work, but they said it was because I wasn't learning fast enough.

I have been with my company for 2 yrs now as a marketing admin assistant/ graphic designer, and recently found out from a friend/co-workwer of mine (who is the same job title as me, but strictly admin, no graphics), that she is making about 10k more than me an was only hired 12 months ago.

I had previously asked my boss about 6 months ago for an increase in salary, that would fairly match my job skills and what I contribute to the company, and i got an increase. But at the time he said he gave me what he could afford and when i got the increase cheque it was an extra $25/month (talk about a slap in the face.)

I spoke with my boss recently an let him know that the salary gap was completely unfair, an that unless the company brings up my salary I will have to look elsewhere.

3 wks has gone by an things seem to be going nowhere, so I'm currently looking for another job, but if I am offered an increase should I ask for the mrkt rate for Graphic Designer salary+1 yr retro pay?

I'm afraid that I'm not getting jobs because I have lots of unpaid debt, many collections people trying to collect. My last job had Ford Credit garnishing my wages. Any reason to worry that I won't find a company that will hire me?

How persistent should I be? Over the past several months I must have sent out emails to 20-30 companies in two different fields, but have only heard back from two of them! Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be more persistent and send out a second email? Should I mail them my resume via snail mail?
