All other managers when they have quit, have only given their two weeks notice (some even less) so that they don't have to train the new person, and therefore they will look good. They will look good because the new person will screw up a lot without the proper training, and everyone will be like, oh remember how smooth everything was going when so and so (the person who quit) was manager?
So anyway, should I do the same thing, OR should I give a month notice, so they can spend 2 weeks finding a replacement, and spend 2 weeks training them.

In the grand scheme of things, it will really not make that much difference. Employers muddle through either way-regardless of what we (employees) think. Believe me, how much notice you gave is not going to cause your previous employer to give you a bad reference. In fact, for the most part all they can remark on is attendance and policy infractions. In addition, you need to think of your new employer, assuming you have a position to go to. When do THEY need you to start? I say give them the 2 weeks-do your best in training a new person or try to train several to take over different aspects in the transition.

Give your two week notice. If your company was going to fire you, you would have to leave the day of the termination - they wouldn't give you two weeks notice or that lovely month you're talking about (for you to find another job on their time).

If you have another job already lined up and are not under contractual obligations to stay more than two weeks, you should start your new job within two weeks of giving notice of resignation at your current job.

2 weeks is standard. If you want a good reference, you could give 4, and tell them why you are doing it.
