I need to quit a job due to illness, and i won't be able to work for awhile. I was planning on quitting the company before i found out i was sick, but this just means that I can't give a 2 week notice.
How do I explain this to my boss without sound like a jerk...it's not my fault i can't work.

Tell your boss that your illness is keeping you from being the type of employee that they deserve so that you feel it would be in everyone's best interest if you resign. Appologize for the short notice but acknowledge that you are sure that he will understand that this is beyond your control.

Don't quit. request a leave of absence.
This leaves the door open. Suppose, after a while you want to go back. by taking a leave of absence, if you were a good employee, there may be a position open for you. maybe- no guarantees. So at least you would possibly have a job to go back to. If you have no other job lined up, this is a way to be working until you find something better.
if, later you still don't want to go back, then you tell them you won't be returning.
But just outright quit?-Never!

dont quit. if you are seeing a doctor they can put you on disability.

This way you get paid while you are off sick (its not as much as your current salary unless you work for a giant corporation that will make up the difference).

Works alot like Unemployment except you don't lose your job. When you are better you are guaranteed a job with the same company (may not be same position but they cannot reduce your salary).

Of course, you have to be under physician care for it to work. No note, no disability.

Get a doctor's note explaining why you can't work. This way they can't give you a bad reference. And you won't be held liable. Good luck.
