I have an interview tomorrow, which is nothing new to me. I have interviewed with numerous companies and I'm very confident in my interviews and in my experience, usually. This one tomorrow morning is different. Every job I have ever had in the past has been a white collar job, so it's been easy - suit and tie (I'm a guy) Tomorrow I'm interviewing for the railroad (norfolk southern) as a yard clerk. Now, from what I've read, this is a white collar-ish position within the railroad, but it's still in the yard, within blue collar working conditions...I'm really excited about the job, but I don't want to go to the interview overdressed in a suit, or underdressed in khaki's. I'm not above blue collar work, I just never worked in that area. What should I wear?

When building a Resume, in regards to work experience, is it acceptable to include self employment, even though legally it would be classified as a hobby. It is work experience and made money from it.

i would like to apply for a season retail job at stores in a mall.
this is really embarrassing to say but i've never had a "real" job before and i don't really know how ot get started.
do i just walk in and say i'd like to apply?? should i have my "resume" with me? should i dress properly? any tips would help!
also, when i was younger i helped out a family friend with alot of the office work but i never really got paid for it so i put it down as volunteering (which it technically was) so do i tell them that that was a previous work experiecen or what?>
do they hire if i've never worked before?
any help would do!

thanks!

I have a petty theft record and an agency that I have applied for to help me find a job, has informed me that I need at least a years worth of job experience at the same place, after the conviction or they cannot work with me. I was honest about it and told them about my background, so I wouldn't have to be paranoid about getting fired later on down the line. Alot of people already working with them, lied about their backgrounds and are currently working, so it makes me a little angry that they are taking me through all this. The l petty theft conviction occurred in January of this year and I am currently on probation for another 2 years. It's hard as hell to find a job and I was wondering, if I could use a friend who is a supervisor for a home care facility to be a reference, stating that I "volunteered" for them for a few years, but didn't get paid much to make a living. He is an employee and all they could do is call. What other proof, could they ask for? No check stubs volunteering

What do you think of following response. I wanted job review also not only salary hike.
"This have been very hectic for me lately. We do not normally do formal job reviews, but we can sit down and talk soon (probably Friday). As far as a salary increase, we are not giving any raises the remainder of 2007. We need to finalize some year-end financial issues before we make any changes. We will be evaluating salaries the beginning of 2008."

Has anyone ever "applied" for the work from home ads in the papers. "1000 envelopes= $10,000. Recive $10 for every envelope you stuffed with our sales material. Guaranteed!" Quoted word for word from my hometown paper. I just want to know if anyone has done this and what the catch is. Does it cost money? I can't see it being for real otherwise wouldn't everyone be doing this????

My fiance is a med student. He will be leaving this state in 1 1/2 years to do his residency. He wants me to go with him wherever he goes and I certainly want to go with him as well. I have gone through two job interviews this week w/ flying colors. They asked me if in 2 years I might relocate for them. I said yes--knowing full well that I might not even be here in 2 years. They LOVE me. My last interview with corporate is tomorrow and I'm sure they will love me as well. I'm positive that they will ask me about relocation too. I truly want this job but feel guilty for telling them I will relocate in two years when I have every intention of moving away with my b/f when he goes away. Can I get some advice? Should I feel badly about this?

Two months ago, I left my job because of the lack of growth potential and problems with management. I gave two week notice and started my new job. I have been at my new job for a month and it is not what I expected, I dont want to be in this job no more, its worst than my last job. I want to start looking, but do I have to list my current job on my resume even though ive only been here for a month? Can they find out that im working here? If i dont included in my resume, what can I say to prospective employers on why did I left my last job which I was there for 2 years..Is lack of growth a good enough reason on why I left??...Any help will be appreciated..Thanks.

I've just got a job at a new store, i kind of lied a little bit on my application form...i was the cleaner at the other store, not the assistant manager, but hey, i'm a business graduate and i have debts to pay. So i just realised i'm an idiot because i can't use a cash register! hahaha, how exactly do i pull of competency? Can i legitimately claim i don't have a clue how to use your cash register because the other store had a different system or do all retail stores generally use the same format (especially aimed at people with retail experience). Is there some way i can get around this or will it do to rent a cash register for a night before i start my new job? (but its not going to be rigged up to any products or anything.) i don't even know how these work!

So a few months back I helped my mother at her corporation (She creates and finalizes copy names with the government) and I went through all their previous files (Boxes and boxes of paper files) And added missing ones, filed them in complete order, fixed ones that were out of place and so forth.. I'm doing my resume right now and im not exactly sure what I would call that position and I am unable to contact my mother at the moment to ask her. Do you have any ideas?

I was let go from a job years ago and I took it very personally since my personal integrity was questioned by my boss, who, in fact, was the screw up and I was her disposable little scapegoat - anyway. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

She, the director of a free clinic, didnt turn in a form to the United Way requesting annual funds for the free clinic - something that's done every year. Without that funding, the people who work there lose their jobs and all the people who cannot afford medical care would go without! And she blamed me for not telling her! Uh... make sense? Didn't think so...I handed in my resignation letter the day she told me I didn't need to come back.

I'm currently a student at the Wharton School and upon graduation I will land either an investment banking or consulting job. My starting salary will be around $150,000 for investment banking a 1/3 less for consulting (including bonuses).

I would like to become a model/actor, however. I consider myself a very good-looking guy and fit the stats of the typical male model. There have been a few actors that have come out of the Wharton School, one of them being Rick Yune (played nemesis of Torreto in Fast & the Furious).

I know that my best bet is going into the financial sector but acting might pay off too someday (Matt Damon).I have an exotic look, so I could get ahead in the industry, and maybe my discipline, educational pedigree, polyglotness and intelligence would be beneficial too. I need a salary to live tho. I was thinking of some sort of consulting/modeling/acting career choice that gives me time for both.

What are my chances, given my choices and qualities to "make it"?
