Don't loose heart. Keep at it and be candid with the employers. If given the opportunity ask that question in the sincerest of tones. Arrange for an unofficial meeting. See if there is a way to meet for coffee first. Tell them you are interested in the company but would like to learn a little more about the company and the management team. Be creative and trust that the right door will open for you.

I hear you... I recently graduated with a social work degree and although I have over 12 years experience in social services - everything from mentally ill adults to rambunctious preschool children, volunteering and employment - I'm still having a hard time convincing potential employers that the experience I have is relevant to the positions for which I'm applying. I certainly didn't get the degree to do the same thing I was doing before (and for the same pay)! Frustrating, isn't it?

Hello,
The key to this dilemma is to be creative in order to convince the employer that you are the person that they want to hire by preparing a resume that is unique and draws attention in which the employer will want to peruse it. Also, think outside of the box, offer to work a week for free so that they will be able to discover how valuable you will be to their company. Constantly go to place of employment asking to see the person hiring and convince that person that you are THE ONE for their company or business. BFN

Better than lying or fudging, how about actually getting some experience? How can you get a job without experience? Volunteer your time. You will learn skills and have something to add to your resume.

i would definately contact the sort of companies you would like to work for. speak to the Human Resources Manager. Tell them you are desperate to learn and would be willing to work for 2 weeks for free to gain some experience. they would give you a reference after this and who knows.. if you prove yourself they very well may give you a job!
