I was let go from a job years ago and I took it very personally since my personal integrity was questioned by my boss, who, in fact, was the screw up and I was her disposable little scapegoat - anyway. It kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

She, the director of a free clinic, didnt turn in a form to the United Way requesting annual funds for the free clinic - something that's done every year. Without that funding, the people who work there lose their jobs and all the people who cannot afford medical care would go without! And she blamed me for not telling her! Uh... make sense? Didn't think so...I handed in my resignation letter the day she told me I didn't need to come back.

She did you a big favor, by letting you out of there!! Do you really want to work for someone who doesn't have the same personal integrity you have? She cannot accept her failure, and used you to make herself feel better. But in the end, she will get what is due her.

Please, as hard as it is, do not take it personally. You are not at fault. Do not let someone else's poison become part of you. Try to accept the fact that our world is not fair, and unfortunately most people are weak and blame others. Consider it experience, and continue your journey to better things.

You didn't say what your job was. Were you her assistant? I don't see how it could be your fault unless you were her assistant, which would mean your job was to assist her in doing her job. It also seems "fishy" to me that an entire clinic would be shut down, all the employees would lose their jobs, and people who cannot afford medical care would go without due to the lack of one measly piece of paper not being turned in. Most agencies that provide funding will provide the same amount as they provided the prior year if there is ever a problem. Anyway, this whole thing sounds unreal to me. You may have been the scapegoat, but you were just someone she stepped on going up the corporate ladder. I'm sure she has forgotten about you and continued on her way (stepping on others as she goes), you however need to forget about her and go on your way.

Last month I was laid off at the antiques shop where I worked on Mondays. My hours were given to a 76-year old woman who's been there "since the shop opened" who left her staff days behind a couple of years ago to take another job while she still retained a dealer booth in the shop. Since she left, 3 newer people (than me) had been hired on for other days. *I* was laid off for whatever political reasons...me. Make sense? Hmmm. I don't feel the greatest amount of integrity about that decision either.

The only way I can bounce back...looking for another job now and looking for other ways to sell MY antiques.

You don't agree with work ethics and it is your right to choose in business the boss does not like to be contradicted or proving wrong it is sad when an employer is stubbing and blind and will not listen i feel you liked this job and would love to do it again you never will as your opinions are strong and it is not liked go to a place that does similar things give them your wealth of experience and maybe one day win the funding that other clinic receives would that be a lesson to be learnt to your old boss Dave(mentor)

Its a very often event that people are unfairly fired or let go from employers. Once I was let go simply because my supvr got wind that I was looking for another job and before she came to me and asked was it true or not she simply told me to leave and find it on my own time. You cant let events like that affect your everyday life. Getting back on that horse is easier than you think when you simply remember that everything happens for a reason and that when one door shuts another one opens. Dust your shoulders off, keep your head up high and I guarentee you that you will find a better job that will appreciate you.

she made you the scapegoat for her error, thus costing you
your job for her blunder.
i assume you do not want that job back now, but if that ever
happens again go over her head and fully explain yourself.
why should you be punished for someone elses error?
