I am so ticked off right now.

Job posting as technical recruiter lists $42,500 as base plus commission....obviously I'm all over that

Not "up to" or commensurate" but states $42,500 AS BASE

I kill the interview and ready to hop on, mind you in the meantime, I'm turning down other offers of 35 and 40k for this one...anyway

So I get a call a couple minutes ago and the guy is extending an offer to me...GREAT! not...

He freakin tells me he is going to start me at 30k and in 90 days get moved up to 32,500...Obviously I'm pissed and I mention it says 42,500 as base on the job posting..he says "Oh really?, It was a Typo".

Thank goodness I saved the posting before hand...I actually checked it online, and with the quickness it now says "Commensurate with experience"...what a load of crap.

Anyway is all that legal what they just pulled??? What are your guys opinions of this?

I'm currently on unemployment and just received a job offer for a position that would bring in decent pay. I'd have to learn much about the job responsibilities, but it will serve as a good learning experience. The job is temporary though, lasting only several months to a year.

I have other interviews to go to this week and next. I may end up being more interested in them, but nothing's in the bag yet, obviously, so what do I do? Accept the first offer and go to the other interviews to see if they want me and I want to work there, and take it from there? I feel like accepting and then quitting is like burning bridges, yet I can't extend the time for me to accept this position.

I'm confused -- the place that offered me the position is desperate for help, and they have a good name in the business. Yet, it's temporary, so they may not be able to keep me and I'll be unemployed once more. I feel like I'd be used in a way by going there. But, I am unemployed now...What should I do?

Basically, I was threatened & bullied yesterday by my supervisor saying that if I don't take my full hour lunch that she will take away my flexi time. I don't have to take a full hour lunch because in my contract it states nothing of the sort. I work full time and I am constantly being harrassed by my supervisor over petty little things!

She is going for good tomorrow so do I leave it alone and say good riddens or contact HR and tell them and it'll go on her record?

P.S. I am entitled to flexi as it is in my contract!!! And she said she will take it away!

I'm wearing a white button-up, collared shirt underneath my suit jacket. However, it doesn't button up really high- it looks like the woman in this pic:

Is it ok to wear this or should I wear a white tee underneath the white buttoned up shirt? I wan't to look professional.

Just started a temping job as a medical secretary (private practice). Granted, yes, I'm only here for a week, but when I started here on Monday, the first thing I had to do was to take a tape and dictation machine for one of the doctors at another practice 3 streets away from here! I thought that was that, until the Dr rang this morning and asked me to collect the notes, tape and dictating machine from this other practice for me to type, plus all her post from over there. I don't feel this is right for me to be doing. What do you think? I know this is beside the point, but I'm full of cold too.

I am worried about my choices. I have many second thoughts and I explored them by every detail (average salary, average satisfaction, availability, benefits). I don't want to declare undecided because I am afraid that I will loose some potential scholarship money for a certain department.

I narrowed it down to 2.

Math - I have a overall B in there and the highest I have took is pre-cal/ trig. I know a lot of people who cant pass because its too hard. I taught myself Cal AB and I enjoyed math

Computer Science - I took programming classes outside of school. I have enjoyed fooling around with languages making mini-applications on my spare time. I consider it as a hobby, I often spend time with. I heard that CS majors are unemployed and have low job satisfaction

Careers I am interested in. (in order of likeness)

1. Secondary Teacher (math) - I am afraid that a CS degree will block my chances. Low salary but good benefits
2. Actuary
3. Programmer

Math - Carer
Computer Science - Hobby

I know a married couple and this is their situation: the wife is an IT recruiter and she places her husband in high paying contracts through her company. She gets a comission for filling the position, and he gets paid for working the contract. He has no degrees or certifications, and has been basically been winging it this whole time. Certainly she is placing her husband instead of other, more qualified candidates. Is this unethical or is this smart of the couple to take advantage?

I would really like to work for Delta Airlines. I am wondering what sort of majors would be best to obtain a career in the airline industry. I am considering communications, business, or French, and I was wondering what sort of jobs the airline industry has that uses those majors.

Any information is welcome. Thanks!

Hi,
I accepted a job offer with a company and a salary offer too low for the industry i work in. I accepted the offer because I was losing hope of finding job after 5 months of search. My salary right now isnt even enough for me to even rent a nice apartment of my own after paying my current bills including student loans. I made a mistake in being afraid to ask for more. The company carries out yearly reviews and I started work with them in December, 2006. I need a pay at least $8,000 to $10,000 more than what I'm getting. this is the beginning salary level for someone in the tech industry. Do you think I should speak with HR and my boss for this or should I look for another job. I have pretty good skills and experience before I joined the company and I'm doing pretty well in the company. Advice please because the pay is killing me. Transportation to work, a month alone is close to $250 and it's not worth it for me. What is the avg % increase range during reviews and what do I do?

I went to school and graduated with an English degree thinking I wanted to teach. I've come to realize that I need to return to school for my teaching license, but after sub-ing I realized I do not enjoy teaching children. I'm thinking about ESL but have to wait on going back to school for that since where I live they do not offer that option. Can anyone tell me what jobs one can pursue with an English degree?

I realize that's a very general question, but I'm just wondering about the basics. I also know the degree name is rather self explanatory, but it's a bit TOO self explanatory for me. :o) What does it involve (the career aspect of.. what in general do business majors do as a career?). Thanks..
