I'm giving a presentation on the subject and would like to quote your bad experiences as interviewer or interviewee. Thanks!

Should this requirement apply to the U.S. work force as well? During working hours that is? Your thoughts on this.

I worked in a dental surgery for 4 years and left a year and a half ago after a disagreement with my employer. I didn't have a contract, didnt get a payslip, I was expected to man the surgery on my lunch hour, so I didnt get much of a break although I was paid for my lunch, If we ran over I always stayed late and wasn't paid for extra time, anyway after a huge argument with my boss which left me in tears I walked out, I didnt want to take my boss to a tribunal but now he is making life difficult for myself and another collegue and wont provide references for any jobs we have applied for, so im now considering it, but the thing is although he was hard to work for we did get on , and had a laugh and this has put me off doing it, just want everyones opinion, and If I would have a case if I was to take it to a tribunal, thanks xx

I like to think of myself as successful academically. I've earned my journalism degree magna *** laude, but left the field because of the money. I earned a paralegal certificate with honors, but it's been a year since I've been able to use it. I never thought I'd feel this way, but my disability (I stutter) I feel is preventing me from getting employment.

I respect that attorneys want to make money, but I'm also seeing why people don't like them either. I know it's a business like anything else. I have continually been turned down for entry-level paralegal positions. I'm a fighter, and refuse to back down. I really don't want to make another career change, because I'm 29, and feel worthless. There's times I want to get loaded and drink myself to oblivion.

It's funny, people who have asked have said I should sue. As much as I'd love to, it doesn't help me. I want to work and earn a living like everyone else does. Sometimes I wish I was born deaf or paralyzed instead.

Any views?

Im 23 and in the midst of a job hunt. I have held an office-desk job twice already and have decided to find something more exciting. My degree was in Management.

Besides monster.com, craigslist.org, careerbuilder.com and hotjobs.com, is there another site you can recommend (and one without temp agency listings)? I live in NYC.

Any help will be greatly appreciative, thanks

I'm always skeptical of filling out the affirmative action form, because I feel it waves a sign that says "DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ME PLEASE" :\ Does anyone know the reality of these EEO sections of employment applications. Should everyone just be putting "other" so they don't get discriminated against?

I have been working with this company for 1 month 11 days. It is a good company and I enjoy it, despite the expected stressful times. In this period, I have only asked off for 1.5---1/2 day to come back on a Monday after being gone 3 hours away helping my mother-in-law move across town and my boss was fine with that, I made it back by 3:00pm; the 2nd day was to go to a new student orientation at a university and my boss got antsy about it. Coming up July 16-19, my sister has her last cheerleading competition, she's a senior, 3 hours away. I want to go Mon & Thurs and will work Tues, Wed, & Fri. Our business nature is bidding so you never know when a deadline is due. I am executive assistant to the owner and I believe he will give me trouble about this. How and when should I approach him on this matter? He will be out of the office the next week. Seeing my sister this last summer is very important to me!!!

I'm curious. I'm trying to get my friend a job here @ work, she already had an interview, both of my bosses really liked her. I'm only referring her because I know she's a really good worker. She was the first person to interview, & the other person didn't show up. So my boss requested from HR for 2 more candidates to interview. Today were the interviews, only one of the people showed up. My boss called HR again explaining that the other person didn't show up & requested AGAIN for 2 more candidates to interview asap. I don't get why he needs 2 more people to interview. He even asked me the other day about my friend if she was still interested & I told him she was & she's just waiting right now. He told me that if it was his company he would've hired her already, it's just that he can't just interview 1 person that's why he requested to interview other people. He's already asked me a couple times about my friend. I know they liked her. It's been 2 weeks since the interview.

My business did not succeed, and I had to move temporarily back to my parents house. So living expenses are taken care off for now.

I am 32 and my physics degree is well out of date now.
What is the best way ,or best job option that doesnt require prior experience, to earn $20,000 in six months?

Thanks

I have two jobs coming up, and I want to know what the reasonable charge is. In a of couple days, I'm babysitting a 2-month old baby and and 1 1/2 year old girl. There hasn't been any talk of how much the parents are willing to pay, and as they are good family friends, I don't want to overcharge or seem greedy. What is a reasonable price that I should ask for?

The second job is in about a month, and I'm going to be baby-sitting a fairly large group of kids (not siblings), ranging from 2 months to seven years old. The parents are offering me $50, and I am wondering if that is a fair amount to be paid, considering how many kids I'm going to be watching for at least three hours. And, as it is a church group for married couples (I'm watching their kids), I'm liable to taxation on whatever amount I get, because I have to fill out a certain form from the church. That's a lesser concern. I just need to know the reasonable prices for each of these situations and why.

Thanks.

I went to a second interview for a graduate accounting job and was made a job offer the same day... I received a letter the next day with the job offer stating it will start in August and of the salary... they wanted a written decision which I sent.

How long do I have to wait until I sign contracts or will that be something done when i actually start? I've handed in my notice into my current job already...

I have come up with two ways to get money:
1) I'm going to try and get a job (pay will most likely be minimum wage)

2) I've been invited to a science seminar thing (pay is about $30 per day for three days)

If I get a job, I can't go to the science thing because it is required for me to stay over there for three nights.
If I go to the science thing, it would interfere with my job (if I get one).

What should I do?

I was laid off from my job & asked my last supervisor for a reference, who I felt would give me a decent review to my future employer. I stressed the importance of needing a good reference since the new place made it clear they needed reputable clearance from my last suprvsor before they could take me on. So I asked my last suprvsor if he'd give me a good reference. He responded that it wouldn't be a problem to serve as a reference for me.

The new place really needs someone, but they contacted me about speaking w/another supervsr from a previous job I held awhile ago. The new place seemed like they were lying when I asked about what my first reference said (they were very evasive)

I needed to give the new place my last supervisor's contact info, but feel he gave me a negative, very flat, or empty review. He didn't even follow up w/me to say that someone called (& I asked him to). I feel like I can't trust anyone. I feel strange abt talking to my 1st reference now. I feel duped.

I am sorry that this is such a long post, but PLEASE read it and help me out, I really need opinions.

I work at an expensive sunglass store where the manager is my boyfriend’s sister, Stephanie. We count the sunglasses every morning and night on daily count sheets. I warned Stephanie that the counts done by other employees were extremely inaccurate. She is relaxed and let it roll off her shoulders as she was more concerned with sales than with the count.

An incident occurred where an employee was stealing. Because of that, Stephanie cracked the whip & wrote two people up, & I received a "verbal warning" because although I clearly marked shortages on the count sheets, I did not "verbally" tell her. She faxed the write-ups to the district manager.

I told Stephanie immediately that I found it unfair that I was even receiving a "verbal warning" as I had warned her many times that the count was off.

I couldn't find things that could prevent them from hiring me. What kinds of things would prevent me? Am I good for at least an interview? How long is the wait for the call? Should I call them about my application? When should I call? I really want this job and I want to do every possible thing that will get me it.

I feel I am doing a decent job at my current job. My only problem is being consistently prompt to the office every day each week. I have received a verbal warning, and I have been able to get to work on time with the exception of a couple of days. Should just start looking for another job?

Please note that my own internal criticism sound like this:

“You should get your tail out of bed earlier, as stop being so lazy.” “You should get your stuff prepared at night more often.” “If this job is important to you, you will make it a priority.” “Who cares that you have two children to get ready. That’s just an excuse.” Who cares that you live an hour away from the office. Who cares that your family only has one car.” “Who cares that you are trying your best , it's not enough."

Now, with all my own personal abuse out of the way. You could probably add to it, but the question I really need an answer to is should I start looking for another job. Your thoughts?
