I have been working with this company for 1 month 11 days. It is a good company and I enjoy it, despite the expected stressful times. In this period, I have only asked off for 1.5---1/2 day to come back on a Monday after being gone 3 hours away helping my mother-in-law move across town and my boss was fine with that, I made it back by 3:00pm; the 2nd day was to go to a new student orientation at a university and my boss got antsy about it. Coming up July 16-19, my sister has her last cheerleading competition, she's a senior, 3 hours away. I want to go Mon & Thurs and will work Tues, Wed, & Fri. Our business nature is bidding so you never know when a deadline is due. I am executive assistant to the owner and I believe he will give me trouble about this. How and when should I approach him on this matter? He will be out of the office the next week. Seeing my sister this last summer is very important to me!!!

I am not on any beginner's probation, I am not even salary. I did not know these dates until last week, neither did my sister.

So, you've been on the job less than 6 weeks & have already taken a couple days off, eh? It would have been better if you'd let your manager know about this when you accepted the position. Now, they may be wondering how dedicated you are to your job.

I'd recommend that you approach your boss in a straightforward manner. Acknowledge that you've only been there a short while & explain how important familial obligations are to you. Ask if there is any way that you could take some of the work with you while you're gone to see your sister. There'll be some down time when you two can't be together so you may as well *offer* to get some work done.

Good luck!

I do understand that seeing you sister is important to you, but is it more important than your job. Most places won't let miss anything in the first 90 days, for any reason. If you do it could be grounds for dismissal. If you all ready know the answer to you question then be prepared for the outcome. Did they give you an employee handbook? Are you on any type of probation period?

On the job less than 2 months, but you need time for this, time off for that,
be glad you still work there.
So,what's more important, seeing your sister or keeping the job. Not a fair choice, but welcome to the real world.

not as you asked. Oregon purely enacted a regulation that demands employers to furnish workers time without work for observance of religious holidays, yet i don't be conscious of of any faith that demands plenty time without work in a month of if the regulation could enable for plenty.
