I have been working security for 2 years at 1 place and just got promoted to shift manager and so far I have been told I'm doing great but feel theres always room for improvment just wondering if I could get some adivse.

Stay alert, watch your people. Develop a rapport with them, but keep them distant. Make decisions once, not twice. Show them you know your stuff. Take little crap. Communicate, communicate communicate (emphasis added)

We have a job to do, let's just do it and no one bothers us.
Don't drive your staff crazy by watching them all the time. They know what to do, let them do it. Let them know you're there to help them, not bust their tails. Also,tell them,we look out for each other, if 1 person screws up and someone else catches it before it gets out, then it never happened.

be the kind of boss you would want to work for
your people do stuff for you, do some stuff for them
plan, be prepared, planning is important, improvising from the plan is important too, executing any plan is most important
