No, that would be barely above what the new federal minimum wage would be if its passed (or possibly even lower if some states have an even higher minimum wage law).

$16,000 a year is only $7.69/hour assuming a 2,080 hour work year. I think $16,000 a year is borderline poverty.

Unfortunately, that's not enough to escape your parent's house to make it good on your own. Cost of living everywhere (inflation) pretty much is to blame--we work to make someone richer....and it ain't us!!

In fact, a $16k a year job barely goes beyond poverty line....a sad reflection on American living standards, isn't it?

However, all isn't a total loss--if you're young and strong, you can work two decent jobs. But the time's fast coming (some say it's already here) where single working life is almost impossible; look to share living space w/ "roomie(s)" , or land in a "domestic situation" (marriage)....uhhhh....etc, etc--you get the idea.

In this day an age, $16K per year means you are living off of table scaps. Don't know what state you live in, but if you live in California where the cost of living is off the charts, you would be starving! That money would not cover your gas expenses!

Dang, is WMart hiring cart pushers again?
Do the words food stamps sound promising?
Do you want to live alone - without utilities?
Do you want to live in a house that is on its last leg?
Do you get my point?
In other words,
No! Don't do it. STOP! Think! Reverse!

No way. That would be living with just the bare necessities. You need at least $40,000 to live a fairly decent life.

ha no I don't think that's good unless that's just pocket change. Just to rent a decent apartment these days it cost around at least 1500 plus utilities and food and insurance. so sorry but that's nothing.

Net or gross? If it is net, then that isn't too bad but certainly not a fortune, but gross...you will be sucking wind. Because the tax department will take a big chunk.

Is that before taxes or after taxes? If it is before taxes, then it wouldn't be much. Rent would be your main expense. IT depends alot on where you live, but 16,000 would be fairly hard to live on by yourself.
