My husband has worked for a landscaping company for a little over a month now and he is salaried. Recently he took two days off sick. He finished the week and went in on saturday to make up for it. He got paid today and they told him they were docking his pay!!! He works 50+ hours a week, can they really do that? Is there anything we can do?

Where I work, a supervisor mentioned to me how they'd never hire a friend of mine back there because of a back problem.
This friend had left the company a few years ago on good terms, to move out of state. A co-worker was talking about how they told my friend to apply back as they are hiring in that area. This is when the supervisor spoke up. I was shocked and felt this super should not have said anything. In my mind that's discrimination and yet my friend is a competent candidate and has been employed consistently elsewhere since leaving the company. This supervisor has a track record of being unprofessional, yet they don't get rid of this person. My friend is very upset and mad and wants to call HR. This is in NJ.

Theoretically I would have graduated from a four-year university with a degree exactly seventeen years ago. I didn't. I simply went to work right after I graduated from high school. Big mistake, kids! (for me anyway, I think). Now I wonder, ethics aside for a moment, would a potential new employer even check to see if I really had a degree if I indicated I did on my resume??

because I searched for it and the people who are undergraduates or college leavers they can start their career by chosing LLB program and GDL is only for those who are already graduate and just need a legal knowledge and then can go for legal practise directly. When I was in Pakistan I thought LLB is something I have to do first but after coming in UK I found several options to save my time and utilise my Graduation by doing this GDL programme. Iam asking and confirming this by exchanging ideas because its really a major decission and a question of my future.

We have been getting calls for someone we do not know...apparently she had the phone number before we did. We have told the compnay repeatedly that the person they are asking for does not live here and explain that we have only had the phone number for a couple of months. We have also asked them, repeatedly, to stop calling. As they call from several telephone numbers and ones that are unavailable we cannot block all of their calls...too many different numbers. They refuse to give us the name of the company they are calling for bur want our personal information so they can update their files. As it is not our bill they are calling about there is nothing to update. We have spoken to the phone company and they have indicated that blocking the calls will probably not work. We just changed out phone number a couple of months ago (annoying calls) and do not want to do it again. We have told the callers that we will contact the police. How can we get the calls to stop?

I was told it was "by law" that 30 minutes needed to be taken out of my pay each day if I work more than 6 hours. Obviously, by law you need to take a 30 minute break for every 6 hours worked and sometimes I don't get that break but it is still being taken out of my time card every day. I work 3pm-11pm by myself....tell me, how am i supposed to be getting a break? Is it true that the managers should not even be touching my time card?? Changing hours, etc. Shouldn't we be "clocking out' for break and then clocking back in after we're done? From what I understand no one is to touch your time card or make any changes.

I was offered a job last week. I was sent to take my drug test and everything was fine. I was told by the corporate office to report to my new job Tuesday (yesterday). When I arrived the supervisor seemed suprised to see me. He said he thought they were having me start on. Wed. Nevertheless he assigned me to work alongside the employee I was to replace-she was staying until June 15th. As we began talking, she informed me that she was not leaving after all as her plans had changed. She stated that she did not know this until last Friday and had just informed the supervisor that morning. She said maybe they can let you work parttime-lol. To shorten a very long story, I waited for 2 hours while he contacted corporate to ask what to do. I was informed that maybe at a later date they could use me but obviously the offer was retracted. I am very angry because I turned down another opportunity because I had accepted their offer. My question is do I have any recourse?

My personal opinon is that they are;
Uneducated social climbers..

Simply because they require a Court Clerk to outline legal principles for them, they have approximately 4 weeks legal training [ It is not a prerequisite to attend Law school..... ]

.....And they tend to boast about an occupation which is essentially unskilled.

(1) Should I call her Wednesday late afternoon or Thursday to follow up on my interview?

(2) What exatly do I say when following up on an interview (I have never done this before)?

OK, I went to an interview (for a receptionist at a law firm) last Thursday. My interviewer (women) told me she would get back to me Tuesday or Wednesday to let me know if I was going to get a second interview (or hire me). I think my interview went really well and she loved my questions @ the end.
She did not call/email today.
.
Should I go up there tomorrow (being pursistent) to ask if the position was taken or something of that sort. I am getting 50/50 answers & I need someones opinion.
.
Thank you!

We moved this weekend. It had been planned for months. Friday night my husband's employer asked him to work Saturday night 3-midnight. Because he IS such a loyal, honest employee, he went to work despite the fact that we had to move. Around 9:30 pm, another employee crashed his forklift into my husband's. They sent them both to a drug test at Care Now. But, it was closed when he got there (they close at 8 or 9 pm). The next day, he went to take the drug test, but the place was close AGAIN- despite the fact that his "referral sheet" said the hours were from 10 am to 6 pm, and it was just after 5 pm when we arrived. So, he went yesterday. (The entire two days he continually checked in with his "lead man" and his "lead man" repeatedly told him that he "got his back" and not to worry.
Today, he showed up for work and they said he was being "let go" for refusing to take the drug test.
Is there absolutely no recourse for this injustice? Please help!! We need his job and his insurance!

I have accepted a job with the enemy of my current employer - whom I previously worked for. This past employer and I have thoroughly discussed all the issues we had between us as a result of my leaving his employ and going with my current employer. I am so afraid to tell my current employer that I am leaving to go back to my former boss....He can become very angry and I know that all the hard work I've done, and all the praise he has given me up to this point will mean nothing once I tell him. Does anyone have any suggestions for the most tactful way and the kindest way to handle this? I am several years older than my present boss. We don't have a bad relationship - just not a lot in common. I know he is very pleased to have me working for him and will never be convinced that this is not a mistake. The new position represents an increase in pay and a few other pluses- otherwise, the jobs are comparable. Thanks.

I started seeing a reflexologist last month, I had an Indian Head Massage to relieve Migrane. I had made an appointment to go back to her this month but couldnt make it as my nan, who is 90, was rushed into hospital. I didnt let my reflexologist know as obviously I had more important things on my mind.
I recieved a letter from her today with an invoice for the full amount of the treatment!! She also writes that if I call her to book another appointment she will reduce the missed appointment fee by 50%. Isnt this blackmail??

She dosnt state anywhere on her website that if you miss an appointment you will still be charged.

What should I do?

I am not sure if this is a legal issue, but I have heard that many employers are reluctant to release information for fear of lawsuits. For example, an employer might discuss a former employee's job title and dates of employment, but not salary information or reason for leaving.

I work for a small law firm (about 30 people). At the end of my shift today, the office manager who is also the HR approached me and let me know that they have decided to let me go. She gave me my last paycheck plus one month's salary and 1 week vacation. Is it illegal that I was the only one? Can companies lay one person off at a time like they did with me? The office manager said that it has nothing to do with my work performance, etc. but that business was slow and it has been for several months as a result of cases settling. Thanks in advance.

Equalling a gross of $400 a month.
The company has decided to pay him a flat rate of $300 a month instead.
Can they do that?
He is not going from employee to contract.

Thank you for your replies.
