When an interviewer asks

Everyone has helped someone out before. Tell us about a time when you went "above and beyond the call of duty" to help someone:

Briefly describe the situation:

What did you do?

What was the outcome?

What sort of questions do they want to hear, and about what sort of topic? Somewhere outside the workplace or in? How detailed do they really want you to get. After working for the same company for 15 years I am looking for a change and was never asked this type of question when I would interview back in the 80s.

It's getting increasingly harder to find jobs that do not require bilingual abilities in california. I believe the statistic is 40% of california's elementary students are hispanic. Therefore, bilingual is a growing hidden requirement for teaching or teacher assisting in the US. Many of the restraunts and stores tend to hire bilingual first. Nurses are increasingly spanish speaking. Why should the people who are causing the bilingual problem be profitting from the problem they've caused? Not only do they have a preference for the jobs, they get bilingual pay!

I am a sophomore in college, majoring in criminal Justice. I just want to get some experience in a basic government job. Are there any entry level jobs that don't require a bachelor's degree that is not in the military or becoming a cop/security officer. I am more interested in the forensic part of criminal justice. I've looked at tons of websites and I'm going insaine. I don't want to wait until i graduate college to start my entry level job.

Our friend works from home and can do her job anywhere. She just needs a phone/fax/computer. Personal family problems need her to be able to move to another state. Her employer told her if she left the state she would not guaruntee employment. If the finance company called to verify employment, she would deny it. Is this Legal? Or is this Blackmail? What should she do?

After i handed in my resignation which gave two weeks notice i found out that i only needed to give one weeks notice. I then informed my employer that my notice is for one week. She has now stopped all staff from talking to me, doesnt speak herself in any way and removes the seat from the staff room prior to my breaks, returning it shortly after my break has finished. Am i breaking any law in reducing my resignation time?

At my company the Accounting Manager handles HR functions. Her daughter is the A/P assistant. I have learned that she has shared confidential information regarding other employees with her daughter before (pending reprimands and layoffs).

Last year I had to submit a doctors note to explain a recent 3 day absence, the details of which are not known outside my family (no co-workers, or even friends). Based on some recent comment/jokes made by the daughter, it seems highly probable that she received this information from her mother, the Accounting Manager.

I am very angry and want to complain, but worry about upsetting senior management and possibly jeopardize my future at the company. She has worked at the company for 18 years and is very good friends with the owner and his wife.

FWIW, I just received a 25% raise last month (20% the year before, when I was promoted to a permanent employee), so my performance record is quite strong.

I have been offered a fantastic job... but my last employer has not responded as my reference. Admittedly, I did not ask my boss to be my reference, but the job application form specified I put my previous employer. I was a very good employee yet my old boss was always less than professional. I was on time every day but always had to wait fifteen to twenty minutes for her to arrive before I could get in for example, and I never felt much appreciated however hard I worked, slaving extra hours that I got no recognition for.

I have been told to get in touch with her myself. I managed to get her mobile number but it's always switched off. There's nothing I can do but go find her myself in a few days time when she's in but I'm annoyed that I have to bother going to so much trouble when it would only take five minutes of her time- and I'm worried she'll refuse to give me a reference.

I'm fuming mad and this will not help me in my begging for a reference. Any advice? What are my rights?

Hi, Im looking for work at the moment I have an NVQ 2 in Retail but that isnt getting me know where. I worked hard for the qualification and the people who where suppose to be employing me didnt take me on at the end of the course so I was left to look for a Job. Which I didnt mind the Thing is people interveiwers just look at the certificates and put them to one side and say that they dont mean anything as basically its what you do on the jo that means you can do the job right. I recently got a job in retail but i was suprise on how much i havent done in my qualification 3 years ago. As i only worked in a small shop it wasnt the same as a normal working shop Im not working in that shop anymore because basically Im crap at the Job. But it has knocked my confidence loads, I was thinking of doing an administration course but still Im worried if they dont train me properly and then all the work I have done will be a waste of time because I wont beable to get a job in the end.

Hi, I am a 16 year old who applied for a job at Macy's in California. I filled out the online application, and then received an email asking me to come in for a group interview for stock-sales support. I have had past work experience at at sandwich shop, but that is really all. The interview for that job was easy, but I am sure that the Macy's interview will be more formal and intense. I was wondering what I should wear, what I should break, what questions should I practice, what questions I should ask, and other interview etiquette. I really need this job because I am hella broke, so please give me some advice on how to land the job.

her that I said some derogatory things about her that she is useless and doesn't know what she is doing. I didn't say those thing about her. The woman use to be my boss 4 years ago before I got another position in our state gov. agency for three months. She never liked me for no reason because I was appointed to my job, and she doesn't like the fact that I am of a certain color and political persuasion. She has been saying stuff about me to other colleagues but I didn't go around saying that I would file a complaint because it is heresay.

What happened one her employees, had hacked into my computer. I saw her employees user id on my Novell log in. I called the help desk and got a ticket number. Later that day, the IT guy called me and I explained about my computer. He said for me to contact the woman. I told him no because we can't stand eacher we don't get along. We have a history. I don't feel that need to contact her because it is a computer issue.
