Hi, I am a 16 year old who applied for a job at Macy's in California. I filled out the online application, and then received an email asking me to come in for a group interview for stock-sales support. I have had past work experience at at sandwich shop, but that is really all. The interview for that job was easy, but I am sure that the Macy's interview will be more formal and intense. I was wondering what I should wear, what I should break, what questions should I practice, what questions I should ask, and other interview etiquette. I really need this job because I am hella broke, so please give me some advice on how to land the job.

I don't think it will be too intense. I used to work there when it Marshall Fields and I found the managers to be very nice. It sounds like an entry level job so they will be looking for someone who has a nice appearance- not sloppy, etc..and who seems friendly. Just be yourself and you will do great!

Very important that you be on time, or better yet, 15 to 20 minutes early. Be very clean, with your hair cut in an adult style, clean jeans and a shirt, NO low slung pants that look like you need your diapers changed. Have a copy of your reference from your other job, or if not available, have a couple of personal references from your teachers or minister. Stand up straight and smile at the interviewer when answering questions. Emphasize how dependable you are, and that you are willing to work overtime if needed, and on week-ends and whenever needed. If your school grades are good, say so and in which subjects. Ask about job training, evaluations of your work, and what would you have to learn for long term employment. No questions about time off or benefits, if hired, you will be told. Remember, you are trying to please Macy's, they don't have to please you. And, big and, always thank the interviewer for his/her time. They notice things like good manners. Best wishes.

You won't get the job. You're supposed to go in there looking like their sales clerks do and they don't allow them to wear jeans.
