I am a 28 year old teacher from Switzerland. So far I've worked in 5 different schools (as a substitute). Now, for the first time, I've got an open-ended contract at this tiny school in a village near my home (kind of "everyone knows everything about anyone"). Even though I should consider myself lucky, I feel tied town and overwhelmed with responsibility. I replace an old teacher, who everyone loved and I struggle with the heritage. I am being bullied by two of my colleagues and find it more and more difficult do my job, since they only seem to wait for my mistakes..
I don't know if I should quit. Does that look bad in a future CV? Or is it more important to pull myself together and try to cope?

I am thankful for serious advice.

Just taking a poll. If you have or are intending to study communications, which area would get a you a job the fastest, JOURNALISM, PUBLIC RELATIONS, COMMUNICATION POLICY, COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT or MEDIA ART (assuming this is all you had). I am aware of the ruthless competitiveness of the industry, and that most people never work with MTV or CNN. I have varied interests, just as long as I'm writing it's okay. ; |
Any ideas?

A few year before I retired, I was sent to a remote project (Army Corps of Engineers) that had gone bad. It was behind schedule, over budget and there were quality problems. I was to replace the man in charge and try to repair the damage. I often served as a trouble-shooter for projects in trouble.

The kicker was the engineer in charge had not told the man I was replacing that this was going to happen. The first he knew about it was when I walked in the door. He thought I was just going to do a one-day inspection.

I thought that was a pretty cold thing to do. Didn't make it easy on me either because the fellow I was relieving of his duty, after getting confirmation over the phone, just took off for the nearest bar and I had to start from scratch.

Ever had a cold shot like that from your boss?

I graduated with a non-accounting degree and now I am thinking of becoming a CPA because of interest in my current professional position. Unfortunately I do not have a single accouting course in both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I know I need some accounting courses in addition to the CPA exams and so I am looking how to fulfill the course requirements in the most fastest and cheapest way possible. Since I am working full time, I want to know if taking any exams like subject GRE in accounting will give me some of the course credits necessary for meeting the accounting course requirements? If not what are other ways to obtain this course credits part-time? By the way I am looking for getting licensed in Michigan or Ohio.

My dad got offered a job that gets way more pay than he does now, we're not poor by any means, but it would still be a lot more money. The thing is the boss tends to stab people in the back, and my dad and the boss both have HORRIBLE tempers. What is your opinion? Is it too risky, or should he take the chance?
