I haven't shopped at the Gap since, like, 1983, so I can't threaten to boycott their stores.

Message to the Y/A and GAP advertising geniuses: The drivel of which I write is probably pissing off more potential customers off than it's bringing in to the stores. Course I was just a potential customer--what do I know? But I know it's pissing me off and I am associating my piss-offedness with the GAP. Not good if you're trying to sell something. But again, what do I know.... Sincerely, conx

Is there a way to write for a grant, just to get yourself off on your feet? Not for a company, not for some volunteer project, but just for yourself?

I need some cash money, and a loan just doesn't seem the best way for me to go, right now. I've got a lot of bills, car note, car insurance, and trying to get a low-income apartment. I was just wondering what programs might be available.

Someone told me that "audits" are usually reserved for those who have very very suspicious income exclusions and are usually for those making at least $35K per year.

Any truth?

I know yahoo has to do what it can and must, to provide a free service for all of us. For that I am grateful. I try to use the pause button, but I always wind up clicking on to the site and sometimes by accident, I completely X myself off line (5 times now). It's just too much of a pain. How do you find out how long an ad will run? So I can come back then? Seriously...I am not trying to be sarcastic.

Ok, so I am a 14 year old that has beeb cooking since 13, so only about a year of experience under my belt. I was an apprentice at an upscale french "bistro" for 8 months. I worked as the pantry cook for the summer. The restaurant is really slow during the summer, because of the older clientele. I only worked lunch, and the most we ever had was 65 lunches. it was my first job on the line, so I got really nervous. No matter how many people, even if there were only a couple of tickets, I would get nervous. I was also pretty slow, but I progressed as the summer went on. After the summer, i couldnt have a job there b/c i only worked lunch, but then i was in school. Now, I am working at an upscale catering place. there are 3 chefs teaching me and paying me! I have been practicing my knife skills, basic cooking skills, and just trying to get more experience before i get back on the line.
So was i just nervous b/c i was new to the line? or am i just not meant for the job?..............

Due to the nature of my job, the company match for my 401(k) actually comes out of my eligible pay. Which means that if I don't put money in and get the match, I would receive pay for what the company otherwise would have put in as a match in addition to my regular contribution amount. While I don't mind putting the extra money in my account, I'm not able to reap any additional year-end tax benefits for it.

I know this is not a typical situation, but I'm hoping that someone can tell me if it's even possible since the tax benefits could mean I could afford to contribute even more.

My brother needs help. I'll try to make the history quick. Wife of 28 years wants divorce out of the blue. He does a credit check and finds she forged his name to several credit cards and ran up about 60K in debt. Also found out IRS has a 30K tax lean against his house on her (not him, they file seperate).

Afraid of credit fraud charges, she signs divorce papers to take responsibility for all but 17K of credit cards (two cards my brother had opened himself, but didn't know anything was on them). Now those two cards are saying debt is like 30K, and he is also getting calls from the debt she signed the court order for. Companies are threatening to garnish his wages, etc. She is hiding out (but working as a nurse) so they are coming after thim. Divorce is finalized. She won't even respond to offers on the house, one of which was 100K.

How does he make those cards he's not responsible for get off his back? And how does he work out the debt with the others? Divorce lawyer is clueless.
