If I short sell 100 shares of a stock that is now selling for $120.00, what is my maximum loss (assume that I did not place stop-buy order)? I believe that the answer to that is dependent on how high this stock eventully goes. If the stock goes to $150, then I lose $30.00. $30 * 100 = 3000. So my loss is $3000.00. Is this correct? If not, how can I determine what my maximum possible loss would be?

For the same 100 stocks - let's say I place a stop-buy order at $128, in this case, does this now mean that my maximum loss is now $8.00 * 100 = $800.00?

I live in Ohio, and I live in an upstairs apartment in a duplex.

My landlords did not tell me the heaters were broken, that 90% of the outlets didn't work, some of the lights don't work and so on...

I called them and let them know about the outlets and heaters and what not, but I told them not to bother coming out and fixing it right away.

It's constantly problem after problem here, and I would like to move out ASAP.

If I just up and left what would happen? My security deposit covers on months rent, but my lease is not up until September.

I know that as long as my baby is born before Dec 31st I qualify for the Child Tax credit...which I know he will be. (Having a scheduled C-Section Friday). This year I have only made under $10,000 due to pregnancy complications. I tried using a tax calc to determine my refund but it came out nearly DOUBLE what I actually paid. I have heard you can get more back w/ Child Tax and EIC. But do I qualify for EIC?? And if so is it normal to get back that much more than I paid?? I'm not married if that helps any.

I've worked only in retail, and am looking for a really well-paying job. Someone suggested waitressing, and so I'm going to try. What are some tips on getting the job, and then actually succeeding at it?

If anyone has any other ideas of good-paying jobs, I'd welcome that as well. THANKS!!!

Im getting harrassed by a debt colector that already knows the debt is past its Statute of Limitations, and still continues to call me.

They call me day, night and the weekends.

What can I do to report them?
And does anyone have a link to where I can read what the laws are against debt collectors calling me.

I am a 48 year old grand mother of four. Iv'e worked at an animal shelter for 1 1/2 years. I got terminated from my job because a co-worker assumed I was looking through her locker because she left it opened and I was the only one in the locker room at that time. She told me that even though she didn't see me go through her things, that by me being the only one in the locker room and was near her locker, thats why she think I went through her things. At the hearing before I got terminated, she mentioned that nothing was taken, only things was out of placed. They fired me with attempt to theft. I was misrepresented by my union due to my co-worker being related to them. My termination were based on hearsay. I believe my disissal was unjustified. I am outraged, and appalled by the whole ordeal. Further, I intend to file more official complaints.

Net income for the year was $200,000.
Depreciation expense on plant and equipment was $50,000.
Plant and equipment with an original cost of $150,000 were sold for $64,000 (you will need to determine the book value of the assets sold).
Amortization expense on patents was $8,000.
Both new plant and equipment and patents were purchased for cash during the year.

Plant and equipment (2007) = 750,000 (2006) 500,000
Accumulated depreciation (2007) 160,000 (2006) 200,000
Patents (2007) 92,000 (2006) 80,000
Retained Earnings (2007) 825,000 (2006) 675,000

I need to find:
1. the gain/ loss on sale of plant and equipment
2. Acquisition of plant and equipment

Thank you very much

I'm a college student, not bad with money at all (in fact, I tend to be too cheap) . I wanted to get a credit card so that I would be able to start building some credit, but then I realized that the debit card I was given with my Chase checking account also works as a credit card.

so, my questions: what's the deal with debit cards that also act as credit cards?

Do I need to get a credit card as well to start getting credit?

When I choose credit or debit at a store, what am I choosing between? As far as I can tell, it has the same effect.

I sent my tax return in via certified mail and the irs lost my return. They processed my payment that was with the return but lost the actual return and they are requesting I send it back in. They are expecting me to pay a outrageous amount of money based on w-9 that have been sent to them. I have requested a reconsideration of my return. My money has been tied up on this since may and now it is december. Is there any way to make them pay interest on my money and maybe compensate me for my time? Can I sue them for negligence of federal property?

I work for a Healthcare School and I want to do the LPN program. The whole amount is 17,500 and the owner is only giving me a 1,000 discount. I heard that he can give me 40% off and use it on his taxes and he will get the same amount of money back. How can I prove this? Is there a website that I can show him? And what difference would it be if he still got the same amount of money back?

Best answer 10 points!
