I was talking to one of my relatives who is in the business of mortgages. I was telling him that I was interested in buying a house in Minnesota (where I live). He told me that I would be better off renting for a year because the market is doing so horribly and buy a house when the market starts to go back up.

I'm unsure if I should take his advice or not and would appreciate any feedback.

I work for a public accounting firm. I am looking for a new job and am writing up my resume. Should I include the specific names of the clients I have worked on over the past few years? They are very reputable fortune 500 companies (finance firms, mostly). Is this okay or is it frowned upon by employers? Thanks

My Filipina mother is a fantastic cook! She is always receiving accolades of how tasty her dishes are. I have eaten her food for all of my 37 years of life, and have never tired, nor will ever tire of her cooking.

I would like to start a restaurant (a small and modest one) that features her cooking. She still needs some coaxing to warm up to the idea.

Anyways. Anyone have any advice on how to start one?

Things like:

~ How do we trial run the concept? Seeing if people in our area would be interested in a particular ethnic food.

~ What are the general start-up costs involved in opening a small restaurant? And, if that amount of capital is not readily available, how to go about raising it?

~ What are basic principles in ensuring a restaurant does not fail? What are guidelines or the "Dos and Dont's" generally applied?

~ Are there differences of menued and buffet restaurants? In terms of operating costs and codes?

~ What kinds of licenses and certifications are involved?

-About how much is E&O insurance? I know it varies, but give me an nationwide average for a part-time real estate agent.

-How much E&O coverage does a part-timer have to carry?

-What about business car insurance? About how much should a part-timer have to carry in liability coverage?

Thanks for the advice.

I'm thinking about buying a place in the next year or so. My credit is about 580-600, in good standing with all accounts, just waiting for old stuff to fall off. I've got an income of about 31K, and my girlfriend makes 34K, and her credit history is very limited, but she has nothing negative on it. We're trying to get her some more credit in order to build a history. We're probably looking for something at bout 225K, with 25% down. What kind of rate might we qualify for?

I am a Single FT college student who works 2 jobs. I have worked as an Educator for 13 years. I will be getting my MS in ED soon. I do not want to get sucked into this home buying frenzy. I do not want to plan roots anywhere permanently. I am very busy and not home much. It seems so many single professionals are buying homes mostly for status purposes and a tax write off. My sister says most people think that way. People want to show the world they have made it and are a success. If I rent, I will give the impression of being low income poor white trash. Is that true? Honestly, I would not mind renting the rest of my life. Am I weird?

We are thinking of putting our home up 4 sale but heres the thing,We paid 157,000 in 2001 and in 2003 it was appraised for 175,000.We had a market analyst done on out home and he said in todays market our home is only worth 160,000 and we still owe 149,000 on it and the realtor is charging us 10,000 to sell it so he figured we would break even and might even be in the hole a little. If we should wait a few more years to sell Is things suppose to be better or worse selling?

I received a letter from an old employee (10 year associate, left two years ago) saying I either had to rollover my 401K to an IRA or employer plan. I have over $10k in the account. I was under the impression they had to maintain it by law. Did the law change? Links would be appreciated.
Thanks

I asked this a while back and phrased it poorly, so let me try again.

I have a Capital One offer to transfer up to $20K to a fixed APR FOR LIFE at 5.99%. From the 3 cards I carry, they total about $25K total. There is no annual fee, & NO transfer fee which surprises me (since it's typically 3% of the transferred amounts). This sounds like a pretty good deal, with a regular APR of 11.99% on purchases, although I'd plan not to use this card for any other means than to pay it off (feel free to laugh). Since the minimum payment each period is 3% of the total, or about $600 min, it's less than I currently pay in total for the 3 cards, but I would plan to pay $1K per month.

Is this a good idea to do? My offer expires on 10/27.

Does anyone know how to calculate future payments? Say I have a $20K balance at 5.99% APR. I make payment 1 at $1K... how could I calculate my next payment based on the APR & a new pre-APR balance of $19K?

Thanks!!
