Oh come on, I was not that difficult to get out...
One puchase and I would have been gone in a flash!

No, I never let them in. You would never know what they are up to, they could be criminals for all you know...my door has a gate in front of it, and I always keep that one locked. I usually tell them politely that I'm not interested and if they do not budge I'll tell them firmly and by the third time I would threaten to call the police.

Umm, yes, isn't that a door to door salesmans job!
Once you open your doors to them, they may assume they have a 50/50 chance on a sale, and will try everything to make that sale.
Words of advice: next time, don't invite them in.

I have had this happen as well. My approach is basically to tell them "look dude, I was nice enough to let you in and give you a chance to give me your sales pitch, probably more than most of the neighbors are going to do. I'm not interested and I'm very busy so please respect that and move on." I'd probably also give them a coke for the road, it is a tough job they have.

Depends what they are selling. I enjoyed the visit of a wine salesman who gladly provided us with excellent samples and after approximately four hours of convivial tippling left in the knowledge that we would give some thought to his offer. For some reason we did not recieve another visit from him.

That's why I don't answer the doorbell. If someone needs to be let in my house, they can call my cellphone before they get there.
Or get a peep hole, or look through a window far from the door--to see if it's someone you know and trust.

PS: Forgot had one tonight asking me to subscribe to newspaper sent him off with a flee in his ear for coming when it is dark and told him to leave people in the road alone as elderly and i would report him. lol

That is why I never let them in. I greet them and say politely that I am not interested. Then I slam the door if they don't start to leave.
