Im a US citizen starting work with a US company that offers a 401(k) plan with a "Roth" option. Since I live overseas, I'll be able to use the foreign earned income exclusion to exclude all of my income from this job. Does anyone know if I can make the Roth 401(k) election under these circumstances? If I do, do the Roth 401(k) contributions somehow become taxable?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Yahoo! Here is my situation: I am 23 years old and have been living on my own for just a couple of months now. Whether out of immaturity or laziness I haven't filed my taxes in the past 2 years. The thing is that I doubt I owe the government and money so I'm not worried about that. I just worked a couple of part time jobs while I still lived at home so I'd be surprised if I made over 4k a year for the past two years.

My problem is that I want to go back to school in January and I wish to apply for financial aid. Unfortunately, I need my financial information in order to do so. I honestly have never done taxes on my own so I don't even know where to begin (the last time I had filed my taxes my father did so for me but I am no longer in speaking terms with him). I'm guessing I need my W2 forms to start but I don't have those anymore. Does anybody have advice for somebody new to filing taxes?

Allowance for doubtful accounts at December 31, 2003 $ 8,000
Credit sales during 2004 400,000
Accounts receivable deemed worthless and written off during 2004 9,000

As a result of a review and aging of accounts receivable in early January 2005, however, it has been determined that an allowance for doubtful accounts of $9,500 is needed at December 31, 2004. What amount should I record as "bad debt expense" for the year ended December 31, 2004?

Say I have $500 that needs to be paid on a credit card. Once the bill comes in the mail does it help my credit score to pay off the whole balance rather than just paying off the minimum payment on time?

You know the dilemma: in an emergency, you need your money fast. A savings account gives you pretty quick access to your money.

But a savings account also earns low interest. So if you put too much in there you diminish your earnings.

I've heard all kinds of conflicing advice. What do you think?

How many months' net income do you think one should keep in a savings account for emergencies?

Our tub drain is badly clogged. We have no problem buying some Drain-O but need to know if we should be reimbursed for it. Or is that my problem because it's our hair, etc? I know Drain-O is not horribly expensive, but the point is wanting to know who's job it is to get it fixed.
(Does anybody have any good drain unclogging ticks if Drain-O doesn't work? Or just a better way regardless?)
Thanks!

I'm interested in several credit cards for various reasons, but I've heard that having lots of credit cards, even if you don't abuse them and pay all your bills on time, lowers your credit rating. Also, I've heard that every time you check your credit rating it goes down. Is that true?

My husband usually keeps track of our credit card bills. But as I was going through the old statments they were charges in them that either one of us made. He had paid a friends cell bill in january and she got ahold of the cards number and has been charging things with out us knowing. these were made in January and the lady at the credit card company did not know if it was too late to file a criminal charge against her. any thoughts?
