My husband usually keeps track of our credit card bills. But as I was going through the old statments they were charges in them that either one of us made. He had paid a friends cell bill in january and she got ahold of the cards number and has been charging things with out us knowing. these were made in January and the lady at the credit card company did not know if it was too late to file a criminal charge against her. any thoughts?

Usually only 60 days. That's why you should review credit card bills every month.

You will need to file a police report. Then contact the credit card company. It is possible they may actually reverse all the charges since it's fraud.

In Canada, credit cards only have chargeback rights up to 120 days, but you need to file by 100 days in order for them to investigate it. So, if you have charges from before July, then you are SOL on those ones, unfortunately. However, you may be able to charge her under a civil suit.

Well the general rule of thumb here is that you have 60 days (some give 6 months) from the transaction date to dispute erroneous charges. There are some variances from one issuer to the next. The best advice I can give you is to call the bank or entity that issued you the card and plead your case with them. With what you have described, you may have the ability to get the charges returned to you. Good luck!
