Firstly, I hope you're alright now.
I'm sure the police was involved in your case. Was the robber caught and jailed? If he was convicted, it would be fairly easy for you to win your civil case, but chances are you'll get back nothing, except perhaps the satisfaction of seeing him stay in jail longer. See a lawyer for an initial quotation and if it's not worth it, you may have to drop the idea. Life's really not fair.

If you want to make a claim to the criminal injuries compensation board any amount is to few and far between to guess. Search google for them for contact details. The offender does not need to have been prosecuted for the offence to claim You victim must have suffered physically which you have. Any compensation will be reduced dramatically if you have a criminal record yourself
Another option is Civil compensation which is a claim made against the offender through the civil courts. You must start the proceedings within 3 years to the date of incident. If the court accept your claim they will order the offender to compensate you an amount they decide. So if the offender does not have much money it will be a long doubtfull process

you should be able to do it without a lawer..well if u live in the uk anyway.
a similar thing happened to my brother he got beaten and stabbed and nearly died, that was about 6 years ago now and he got 10 grand for that. if you reported the incident to the police you should be able to claim compensation..think its thru the government. if you ask the police they should be able to tell you the procedure, they explained it to my bro.
the police did tell my bro however that he could only claim the compensation if he went to court and testified against the people who did it. he found out during the court case though that this wasnt the case and he could of claimed it anway regardless of weather he went to court or not.
anyway this is only relevent to you if you live in the uk and if you reported the incident to the police..if thats the case then my advice is to get in touch with the officer dealing with your case and asking how you go about claiming compensation.
along the same lines though and not to get your hope up but a friend of mine got shot in the eye he did lose a lot of sight in it..he got 100grand..went and bought himself a house.
anyway good luck

Compensation from whom? Who do you expect to pay for this?
You can sue the person who shot you. If you have insurance, it may cover some of the stuff, and your medical bills.

i hope your ok... sad thing is criminals dont have any assets in 99% of cases so you cant sue much more then thier pants off them.... you need to know , with proof (visual, dna, match to a gun in thier possesion) before you can even attempt to sue. just be glad you got away with your life and people like that deserve to be dragged into the street and beat by the community with 2x4s with nails, and then strung by their toes covered in honey and fed to the vaultures.
